1.Easily Reached
2.Great in Number
3.Passionate
These factors are what all of market research comes down to, because these are the three things you want in any potential market. You want them to be easily reached, lots and lots of people who are interested in what you want to sell and for them to be passionate, even fanatical about what your niche is in.
So thinking about that potential ‘Pet Toy’ business I mentioned earlier, you know that your ideal customer is already a pet owner. They are into animals, so it wouldn’t be a major jump to think they might also be interested in dog training, well that is if they own a dog.
Again you don’t want to go down the route of selling dog training to the lovely lady who has four cats and who’s been buying lots of pet toys from you.
Do you see how this works? Your lovely lady with the four cats will be more interested in the beautiful range of cat collars, that include a bell. She doesn’t like it when her cats catch birds, because she’s a bird lover too!
There are lots of cat owners, and many of them are REALLY passionate about their pets, and with good market research you’ll be able to find out where they can be reached.
This one of most topics for a successful marketing career and a lot of beginners marketers don't spend time studying this subject. Thus, doing a lot of mistakes you mentioned and spending a lot of precious time.
