Introduction to Domain Transfer

Recently WA made it possible to transfer your domains that you have registered with other companies, such as NameCheap, GoDaddy, GVO, etc. to WA. This creates a convenience so that all of your domains (URLs) are in one place and you can access them all via the WA platform.

Today I transferred all four of my domains I had registered at different places to Wealthy Affiliate. I took screenshots as I was learning how to do it so I could pass that learning onto you.

The four domains I transferred cost me a total of $59 - two of them were $13.99 each and two were $15.99 each for a one year registration with WA.

Thanks for the training the process seems straight forward. I have started this for one of my domains. I've got the transfer code and unlocked the domain and ordered the domain transfer inside WA.

However, Namecheap has sent me an email stating after 5 days (giving a specific date and time) they will initiate the transfer process. They gave a link to cancel the transfer.

Seems silly that I have to wait 5 days - just as well my domain does not expire for a couple of weeks.

Did you transfer your domains from Namecheap in a few hours? How did you manage to transfer so quickly? I am just wondering if there is something I have missed. Also do you need to turn off whoIs guard privacy at Namecheap while the transfer is being done?

BTW - Namecheap are awesome for a domain Registrar but trying things out with transferring the domain to WA.

I have a domain registered at Google Domains its registered until June 14, 2027. Transferring isn't a options till that time is up correct? Unless (I want to pay again at WA. Correct?
Reply
onmyownterms Premium
Correct, you'd have to pay at least one year to transfer. Just update the DNS there to point to the WA nameservers of:
ns1.mywahosting.com
ns2.mywahosting.com

Hi Loriann,

There is usually a 60 day period that you need to wait when you first purchase the domain.

After that, you're usually free to transfer to another domain registrar and the entire process takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

Here is a post from Carson explaining how to do this here You will need to pay at least a year in advance to make the transfer which is only $13.99 a year.

I hope this helps Loriann and please let me know if you have any other questions or need my help.

I believe it is. Go to the first set of training videos. And it will be covered there. But why would you want to? Other sites raise the cost of your Domain name as often as yearly.

And another question, is it possible to transfer to WA a domain that in 'domain search' on WA was not supported by it, e.g. studio.pl
Many thanks for your support :)

Why is WA so much more $$$ than GoDaddy?
Reply
MozMary Premium
if you do the math you'll see it isn't as they usually have a bunch of extra things you need to purchase and in the second year they put their prices up - whether that is domains or hosting - not sure which of those two things you were referring to, probably in the context of this blog domains....

Some big companies can afford to give cheap domains because they hope you'll need to sign up with them for hosting. And the hosting is what matters and where they make money. I was with Godaddy for a brief moment and they were awful (my experience of them)... Seemed cheap... Free domain.. But just hype.. Then you had to pay for every single item... Each email cost, ssl cost, site guard cost, etc...and support awful... I ended up after 4 months walking away..

Not all are bad. I hosted with namecheap for years and no one really thinks of them as a host. I found them to be awesome and had only good experiences

I am at WA for the other benefits. The training. The community. Hosting is amazing and everything is included...
Gone off track lol...

So.. I assume godaddy make domains cheap to get you through the door

Thank ALL of y'all!!!
When I saw the price I compared it to what GoDaddy sells their's for. But THEN they add Privacy @ $7.99, SEO at $7.99 , Hosting from $5 (Very Basic) to $50 (which is where WE stand) and MORE. All for what WA gives us for 1 Flat Price Of $16 Bucks, period. Y'all are Right : WA DOES really Rock!

guys I already have a domain at Hostgator. I changed the nameserver to WA.I want to ask do I still have to pay 13.99 to have it here.I mean I already paid there plus web hosting for a year. The domain is only one month old.do I really need to pay to WA ?
Reply
leoemery Premium
You already bought the domain name so no you don't have to pay for it again, when your domain name is up for renewal you will simply pay Hostgator because that's who you bought it through.

And as a premium member here you can host up to 25 domains that you own for free.

You CAN move your Domains over to WA for a 1 time fee, depending on what Type it is, ex. a dot com or dot net, dot org, You get it. Yes, you Will be paying the transfer fee (1 time is $7.99, I believe) AND the DOMAIN fee as well. It's YOUR DOMAIN and you're "renting" it from ICANN, the international overseer of Domains and You can do ANYTHING (legal) you want with the domain. IF, by chance, you Might need to pay for the Domain again it simply Tacks On to your Existing length of time. WA ROCKS !!! Transfer them Right Away for the SEO, Privacy and Unlimited sub-domains with even MORE !!!

glad you are sorted, it isn't necessary to move domain names across, some people choose it at the end of the first year before renewal

I am going to set up a new website domain that I had already purchased at Namecheap called BeachSideImages.com, a couple of weeks ago when I had to renew my current website TropicalSeashellTreasures.com.

Unfortunately, I didn't know at the time, that I could transfer my domain to purchase another year at Wealthy Affiliate instead. Now that I know I can do everything here, I did a search in help for how to transfer your domain from NameCheap to WA and found this training...

The training you have done here is so easy to follow. Now I can transfer both domains here to WA and have everything in one place.

Thank you for making the transfers so easy.

Transferring a Domain from another Registrar to Wealthy Affiliate requires renewal of your domain of 1 or more years which is about 42 euros yearly. Do I have to pay this fee?
Reply

Yes because everything will have to switched over to the new hosting platform... It's about 13 bucks/year. :-)

Becareful! You only need the domain name, not the domain hosting. Becareful not to renew the domain hosting.

If you registered it through WA, then the nameservers should already be set to WA's nameservers.

You can access by clicking on SiteRubix on the left and then clicking SiteDomains which takes you to this link:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/domains

To build a site on it you would just click on SiteBuilder.

Thank you Stephhill for a very clear step-by-step tutorial on this subject. This is just what I need. My domain to NameCheap is expiring in less than 30 days. So instead of renewing to Namecheap, it would be better to transfer it here so it's going to be under one roof. Thanks again and more power!

Hi Stephhill,

Your tutorial is so crystal clear! You will come under 'explaining' type of teachers , as you know there are three types of teachers.
Thank you.

I will follow your tutorial. My question is , I have godaddy as the current registrar of my website. But the website is powered by 'incomeactivator.com' (check this website platform.. like wix?) for which I am paying monthly subscription. Now that I am on premium WA, can I do away with host (incomeactivator.com) once I transfer my website to WA?

Please help. Many thanks.

Thank you for this Steph, bookmarked it some time ago... It is the most up to date training item on the method of transfer from namecheap available here.
Will be using it tomorrow to transfer 4 domains and I am confident it will go smoothly.
Just one little point ... An initial look-see just now I observed on my list of Domains the 'manage' button did not appear immediately .. It appeared instead as a 'renew' button... I had to click on this to get the 'manage' button to appear.
Perhaps you may want to amend your training a little in this respect to make it perfection.

If you go into Godaddy and then lauch the specific domain and unlock it, you can then request the transfer activation code which WA needs. I am doing this just now so I will let you know how it goes.

Great training.

Once the transfer is complete, do I have any further ties with Namecheap?

Do I need to make any more payments for the domain name?

Also, I had to switch off WHOISGUARD in order to receive the verification code - just in case anyone else has any issues with this.

Once you know how to do it, it is not that hard. It is just figuring out what to do and of course, the companies want to retain you as a customer so they make it as hard as possible to take your business elsewhere.
