....it isn't like I'm paying for traffic anyway!

This is very true - you are not paying for traffic, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't realize where your sales are coming from!

Ask any marketer (internet or not) if they track where their sales are generated from and they will say YES! I will use myself as an example -

1. I have 10 keywords that I write articles for on the same affiliate product.

2. I will write 3 separate artucles for each keyword (30 articles) that I will post to 3 different article directories.

3. I will create Squidoo lenses for each keyword as well (10 lenses).

4. If I'm not lazy, I will also create 10 blogs surrounding my 10 keywords (10 blogs)

You get the point. I have a lot of information out there all pointing back to my affiliate link. All of my articles and blogs have a link to my Squidoo page AS WELL as an indirect link to my affiliate page. (I buy a cheap domain name and redirect it to my affiliate link - this is allowed on Ezine, etc.)

Now based on the scenario I gave, I potentially have 50 different links going to my affiliate page. I want to know which ones are doing well and which ones are not. I can go back and analyze the ones that are doing well and revamp the ones that are not.

Really it is like free market testing. Now with the tracking information, you can go back and maximize all of your resources and make more money!

Gotcha, thanks. Yeah it just seems it wouldn't do me any good if I can only just use one tracking ID with my domain since I have so many different links going to that domain. This info was helpful though. Thanks!

I do add a separate link for each article. I want to know exactly where the sales are coming from.

As far as a tracking ID on my domain names, you can only add one as far I know. Just redirect your domain name to your affiliate link with your tracking ID for the domain name.

i.e. - www.affiliateid....tid domain.

This is nice, but again, you can only add one tid per domain name though - at least as far as I know.

Do you get a separate tracking id for each article? Also, i buy domain names and redirect my domain from godaddy to my affiliate link. I'm trying to figure out how to add tracking ids etc if I'm using a redirect or forward. Is this possible?
