Okay, so let's just jump on in!
To build your own account you're going to have to follow a series of steps. The website will walk you through each of these steps, but here's what I recommend doing for each of them:
1. Business
Make sure you select "Business Account" when they ask you what kind of account you want to make.
If you don't do this, they'll later ask you if you want to change your current account into a business account. Since you're working the platform for business (affiliate marketing is a business after all), you should get on their radar and receive the notification rather quickly.
But it's always best to save yourself the time and get it done at the start :)
2. Profile
At this point you can choose any picture you want as your profile, but remember:
Humans are a very visual and impressionable species. It's best to catch their attention the first time they visit!
Yes, it is tragic that we'll all be judged by our book covers, but it's a truth we need to take advantage of.
People will be drawn in by your:
- Niche
- Engagement
- Content
This is very true, but the rule of first impressions still applies.
When was the last time you bought a book? What kind of cover did it have? We are all guilty of being drawn in by a cover rather than the content behind it.
Whichever image you choose should cause intrigue and curiosity, or at the very least, look nice. This could be a nice profile of yourself, your own logo, etc. If you're just starting out, don't stress yourself about it. But I'm sure there's a royalty free picture that will suit your visual needs, if nothing else.
My #1 recommended royalty free image site is...
Pixabay: https://pixabay.com/
If you don't have any images to use, this is an excellent place to find what you need :)
3. "About You"
This section of your account profile is essentially your pitch. Tell people what you're all about :)
WARNING: This section is bound to frustrate you if you've got a lot to say.
Pinterest will only allow you to use a limited amount of characters for your description. This means we have to be brief and concise
It can be difficult to find the right things to say about your blog/business, so here's a few things to consider before writing yours:
- Your niche focus
- The goal of your blog/business
- How you're going to help people
- Why they should read your content
These are just some basic things to keep in mind, but you don't have to use any or all of them. Just remember to keep the right focus.Only put in what's immediately relevant and you should be good to go!
4. Location
STRANGER DANGER!
Unless you need people to know where you live, DON'T PUT DOWN YOUR FULL ADDRESS!
All they need is to know "your location". This does not mean the address of your current residence.
I recommend using only the state you live in. If you live in Florida, you should just put down "Florida".
This will keep you from being stalked and receiving strange packages you shouldn't trust...
At any rate, it protects both you and your family from any unwanted attention.
Once you've got all of these things in order, put in your email, etc. You're cracking to go! Follow me to the next page to learn where to go from here :)
Next stop: "Basic Development"
Thank you for sharing your valuable information. I did learn a lot.
1. What is the significant of the 'Claim Website', why is that important and do I need to?
2. Business Type, what do I put or add from the drop down box?
3. Social Networks, am I using my Google+, Facebook or Gmail to login or do I leave that part alone?
4. Finally, what about Security, do I leave that blank as well or do I fumble around with it?
I would appreciate that when you respond, you answer all 4 questions.
Thank you Jess,
R.J.
Have a Blessed Day!
