Now that you've completed the sign up process and received your confirmation email, it's time to get familiar with your account. From the 'Campaigns' tab in the image below you can see the 'dummy' campaign that I set up earlier, and the first thing that I will do is delete this campaign. So I will select the tick box beside the campaign, and then click on the delete button as highlighted in the image below.

Now it's time to set up my first proper campaign, so from the same screen I will hit the 'Create Campaign' button. NOTE: It's important to show you how to set up a new campaign inside your advertising account because it is slightly different to the process followed when setting up the account earlier.

The first step of the process is to add the settings for the campaign, and it's here that we add some important details.

Name
This is the name you would like to give to your campaign. I suggest using something relative like "Wealthy Affiliate".

Time Zone
The time zone setting should be set to your location as it is used for billing purposes and NOT when your ads will be displayed.

Budget Settings.
This is where you enter details of the budget for your campaign. Here you have the option of setting an amount per day/week, and if you would like to spread your budget over the month, or spend it until your budget is depleted. Note that if you choose to spend until depleted you could spend your entire budget very quickly, so choose based on what you can afford personally.

Campaign Targeting
Choose to target customers by specific location, or all locations.

Campaign Exclusions
Use this section to add negative keywords to your campaign. Negative keywords are keywords that prevent your ads being shown for certain search terms that are unrelated to your website content. For example, if you wanted to prevent your ads from showing if someone used the word "free" in the search term for Wealthy Affiliate information, you would add the word 'free' here.

Then if someone searched for "free wealthy affiliate tutorials", your phrase matched ad would not be shown. (People searching for free information are usually not prepared to spend)

Ad Group Settings
Name your ad group and select the market/language of those that will see your ads. In most cases it is best to select English speaking audiences unless you are specifically targeting another language.

There are also a number of additional settings that you can apply to your campaign on the right hand side, and these allow greater control over things such as conversion tracking, specific days of the week/times of the day, and age and gender of your target audience. Later in this tutorial I will explain how you can get advanced training for settings such as these.

The final additional setting on this page is an important one, and that's the duration of your campaign. The default is to have no end date, but adjust this according to your own personal situation if necessary.

The next step is to set up the ads for our campaign and this part is exactly the same as the one we followed during the account sign up process. Enter your ad title, ad text, display url, and destination url and save. Note that you have the option to create more than one ad for your campaign, and this is good practice if you are to create an optimized campaign.

Having more than one ad allows you to compare ctr (click thru rate) for each ad, and this ultimately helps you to create a powerful campaign that generates the best return on investment (ROI).

The next stage is where we confirm our pricing details for our campaign, and there's one important section on this page that will give you greater control over the position of your ads.

That section is right at the bottom of the page, and it's where we set our search network cpc AND discover how much it is likely to cost for position 1. In the image above you can see that it's estimated a bid of 0.05 would make my average ad position 9.17, and this will most likely NOT feature on page 1 of the search results. (Avg position 1-8 usually results in making page 1)

So by making incremental changes to my default bid price and hitting 'Apply' I can see how much it likely to cost for a higher position:

That's a MUCH better position!!

Also note the 'Estimate default bids needed to reach position 1' link underneath the default cpc bid. Clicking this link will automatically adjust your bid to what is estimated it will cost for position 1.

The final stage of the campaign creation process is to review your settings and save. Congratulations...your Wealthy Affiliate promotional campaign is now officially live!
