Step 1. Create a Google AdSense account. If you have a Gmail account, then you can use your existing account.

After you submit your application, you will receive an email from Google within 24 hours, if not sooner, confirming that you have passed the review process.

Now that you have passed the review process, log in to your AdSense account to get ad code.

Click on the My ads tab and then click on the New ad unit button.

These will bring you to create new ad page, here you will select the ad size, type, and style.

Now it is time to name your ad, recommend you use your website name, it is easier to remember. For example YouFit.com, name it You Fit.

Step 2. Pick your ad size - Google will offer a wide variety of ad sizes, they will also recommend certain sizes because they are popular will advertisers. In other words, these ads are likely to have a higher inventory thus having a better payout.

Step 3. Set your ad type - I recommend you choose both text and display ads. For backup ads, recommend you leave it blank. This is shown when Google is unable to find an appropriate advertisement, true me, this rarely happens.

Step 4. Create a Custom Channel - This feature helps you track the performance of ads based on sites. This is optional, recommend you skip it for now.

Step 5. Create your Ad Style - This allows you to control the display of your text based ad units. I recommend using your website's color scheme for best results.

After setup is complete, click on Save and get code button

Step 6. Get the code for the ad - Copy code to notepad or word document, you will need it later.

Last Step - Add Google AdSense in Wordpress - Now determine where you want to display your ad on your website. Commonly ads are displayed in the sidebar. This is accomplish by using Wordpress widgets.

Go to Appearance, Widgets in your WordPress admin area. Next, drag & drop the Text widget to the appropriate area and paste your Google AdSense code in there.

Congratulations you are done!

Hope this was helpful and please share training with others.

Did you add it as a widget? Or paste the code into one page?

I have tried both....When I paste the code on a page, the yellow box appears there, but as I save it, and go back to my page, it doesn't appear. As a widget, it appears in only one of my posts....

I have seen this tutorial, and have followed the instructions, but still nothing. I deleted it from widgets, and seems like I have to add the code by hand to each page where I want the ad to appear...Thanks for all the help!

Recommend you add a AdSense plug-in. After you activate, select setting and edit. There you will be able select where you want the ads to appear.

Here are a list of a few free ones: Quick AdSense, AdSense Now, Easy Adsense, Adsense Explosion, AdSense Manager, and take a look at Insert AdSense. Please read what each offer, think like a user when viewing your page.

No....the plug ins were adding the ads either on top or bottom of some of my posts...I want it on the side bar, so it appears always. I was told that it could be my theme that doesn't allow for that to happen "sigh" I'll keep trying.

Follow up: What plugin did you pick? Quick AdSense is my top pick for you. It really easy to use.

Hi! thank you so much for all the help and advise....it was actually easy, but since the tutorial I followed said not to give a title to the text widget, I didn't, and that was the reason it wasn't working! Now the ad is just where I wanted it to be :)

Once again, thank you!

Hardest part is the wait for Google to approve your application. Thanks for commenting.
