Yep. Sometimes you need to do it. If you are running a subscription-based membership website, a multi-author blog, a forum or a community site, you can have dozens, hundreds or even thousands of users with different rights and permission levels.
And no doubt, sooner or later there will be situations when you'll want to block some of your users.
Obviously, the easiest way to achieve this is to delete the given user profile.
BUT! If you delete user accounts in Wordpress, you'll have to re-assign all their content to another user ... Which action will also change the author information for those articles ... Which is unprofessional ...
Yes, I can hear you ... You could simply change the user’s password and email address to block their access ...
BUT! This will also change their Gravatar image ...
The point: you need a simple, efficient method that will allow you to block a user without actually deleting the given account, without moving user created content pieces or deleting existing user profile information.
This is why I've created this short tutorial to show you how can you block a Wordpress user ... the right way.
Interested? Let's dance!
.... ok Zzz -- now we're becoming a bunch of 'blockheads!' .... lol
