Creating the E-Book

The first thing we do is copy Tiffany’s text (Ctrl+A, then Ctrl+C) and paste it into the appropriate page in the template.

To paste, I use right-click and then the Merge Formatting icon so that the formatting built into the template is used.

Then I immediately use Save As to give the new book file the name The 10 Essentials and make sure I don’t overwrite the template.

Then…

  • Replace the book title in the heading
  • Change each of Tiff’s major headings to h1 font and precede it by a chapter number and page break
  • Insert a drop cap as the first letter of the paragraph for each chapter.

Let’s take a look at some of these pages.

Typical Page

I’ve ended up with a 30-page book, which is just about a perfect size.

Small enough to be digestible but large enough to feel substantial.

I have been evading this project (successfully, so far!), but now I think I need to get it done--and am actually looking forward to it.

Thanks, Phil,

Joe

is there a download or link to this template?

If you mean my e-book template, it's located on one of my websites as part of a paid training course, so if I gave you its link, it would be seen as self-promotion. That's why I described how to set it up in Word instead.

You mean the actual e-book (PDF) that I'm giving away?

I upload it to a folder in my website using FileZilla.

Then the Download page that the visitor is sent to from the confirmation email contains the link to the PDF. It will look something like:

https://mywebsite.com/free-product/book-title.pdf

where free-product is a new folder I created on my website using FileZilla.

My apologies if that's not what you're asking.
