How to pick a niche and know that it is going to work?

Picking a niche is probably one of the most important steps before you start an affiliate marketing business.

Here are 5 steps that I will go through when coaching my referrals to picking a profitable niche.

A Message to My Referrals

If you are referred to Wealthy Affiliate by me, and you haven't approached me yet, send me a private message here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/message/jackcao

Need Niche Ideas?

Here is the Ultimate List of Niche Ideas: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/the-ultimate-list-o...

Let's Work Out An Example Shall We?

Let's say that I am in the guitar niche...

On step 2, I will just try to identify the products, brand name and solutions in my niche. Just an example, I found that there are several brand of guitars, like gibson, fender and etc.

On step number 3, the brand name itself is a keyword and I would do keyword research on them. This keyword research on the brand name will tell you if there are a lot of interest in this niche. This step is to identify if there are a lot of people imterested in your niche.

Then on step 4, you will do product specific keyword research, like Fender Stratocaster review (a specific product keyword). Type this keyword into Google to see what are the top results. This step is to identify what type of sites Google is willing to rank.

Hope this exercise will make everything clearer.

Your friend,

Jack

Hey Jack - at last! Some sensible tips about chosing a niche! :-)

I hear so many people say that any niche will work and not to overthink it, but while that may be true in theoiry, unless you like the niche - your step 1 - you are going to give up. That's pretty much guaranteed.

Also, - step 2 - you need products to promote otherwise what's the point :-)

Your referals are lucky to have you with your solid and sensible advice. 👍

I completely agree with how important you say it is, Jack, for beginners to choose a niche they are passionate about to keep them focused and motivated to do the leg work before the results come in. Once you've become competent at both building and monetizing a niche website, then it'll become easier to profitably apply that knowledge to pretty much any niche.

Another invaluable point you make is about coaching your referrals. We all know the training here within the Bootcamp, OEC and the Classrooms is World class and there is tremendous support available within the Community, but we still have a personal duty of care to the people we introduce and cannot simply leave them to just on with it once we've signed them up.

Thanks for a great training.

Cheers

Rich :-)

Jack, hi there.
Did I sum up correct?
1. Passion and interest in the niche
2. Finding 10-20 products in that niche in general or in specific keywords in a particular niche?
3. Keyword research on those 10-20 products?
this is where I got confused because researching products I use keywords and then I need to research keywords that I used for those products. Chicken and egg problem. Products first or keywords first?
4. Understand what on the first page results in google for that specific kw.
5. Find a competitor to target!

thank you for clarification for products vs kw in advance :-)

Hi Raivis, the order is correct. Let me clarify with an example.

Let's say that I am in the guitar niche...

In step 2, I will just try to identify the products, brand name and solutions in your niche.

Then on step 4, you will do product specific keyword research, like fender stratocaster review (a specific product keyword. Type this keyword into Google to see what are the top results. This step is to identify what type of sites Google is willing to rank.

Hope this is clear. If not let me know.

Hi, Jack, I see.
"identify products" is like more general knowledge about the market, players, and products in particular.
Once acquired this knowledge about 20 products (in whatever way each of us can) in the niche, then each product (or brand in your example) is analyzed researching kw.
After that, i check if those kw rank in the first page and the page is filled with colleagues affiliates rather than superpower players like e-commerce sites and magazines.

Thank you, Jack. It is more clear now :-)

Thanks, Jack for this informative and helpful video.
This is where I am stuck and compounding the problem is I do not really have any passion.
The only niche I am passionate about is spiritual (eastern version).
A niche which according to Kyle is not considered a niche.
I also do not have much interest in the MMO.
Well, I think I have to keep searching.
Thanks again, Jack for sharing.

Then, what do you do for pastime? Fishing? Hiking? Playing chess? Read blogs - what type of blogs? Read magazine - which section you usually go to? I am pretty sure if you look into areas of your life where you spend the most time doing, you may find some interest or passion that you don't know about.
