So ... Upon activation bbPress will create three new menu items in your admin menu area: Forums, Topics and Replies ...

Select Forums => New Forum ...

This will take you to a traditional post editor screen.

Provide a title for your forum and enter a little description of it:

Then just press the famous Publish button.

And repeat the process, to create all the forums you need ...

Now that you have created all your forums, you'll want to display those forums on the front end of your website.

In order to do that, you'll have to create a new dedicated page.

Give this page a title, for example "Forum", and simply paste the [bbp-forum-index] shortcode in your page:

Turn off comments and trackbacks on this page and then publish it.

Finally, go to Appearance => Menus and add the new Forum page to your navigation menu:

Now your new forum is accessible from your main menu. And here is my Forum page with my main forum index:

OK. Let's move forward to the next lesson to discuss a few integration issues ...

bbPress gets a bad rap sometimes - I think because it is free. :-) How could anything free be worth it? But it is very complete and very expandable.

My only issue with it over the years has been the ability to customize the layout. Someday, I hope that they will make it easier to move things around.
