If you've ever wondered how to add a Featured Image to your site's content (while also making your home page look much nicer), this training is for you. In this video, I show you two methods for adding a feature image to your site that can work both using SiteContent and editing your content in the back office of your site (WordPress).

Hi, Tim! Great video training, thank you. I would be very interested in seeing the training for the Generate Press Theme as I am having the same issue as Brenda only I use the Writee theme. Anyway, have an awesome day and a great weekend.

Hi Brian. I may make a video on switching to the GeneratePress theme in the future, but in the meantime, this training shows you how to choose a new theme if that's something you were wanting to do: Thanks for the comment, and likewise, have a great weekend ahead!

Hello Tim

Thank you for this great video. I already knew how to add a featured image but I watched out of interest and because I like your content. But I actually learned something from your video. I didn't know about adding featured images in Site Content because I always create my content directly in WordPress to.

I also didn't know about the read more button which will be useful if I ever switch to using the block editor in the future. I use the classic editor on WordPress because I like it and I don't really like the block editor. I have my theme set to display an excerpt of my content because I know you shouldn't have the full content display on the homepage.

As for featured images I always add them directly in WordPress but there is something I wanted to add about resizing images. You don;t have to resize all images on your computer if you don;t want to. When you upload your images to your media library in WordPress there is an option to resize them to small, medium, large, full size or a custom size.

But this option isn't there for featured images I don't think so you will need to resize them on your computer. I create my featured images in Canva because I always make a blog banner to use as a featured image which is already at a good size so I don't have to worry about resizing them. As for themes I use the Astra theme on my main website and different themes on my other websites.

I have one website that I use Generate Press on but I don't really like it because it looks quite plain and I like the look of other themes better. Anyway that's all I wanted to add and I really enjoyed this video.

Thank you again for this great video and for the couple of tips and tricks you taught me. I look forward to hearing more from you and watching more of your videos. All the best to your success.

Regards

Timothy

Hi Tim, thanks for the training. On my WordPress with Kadence, it shows the featured image, but the photos are double. I don't know how to fix that. Is there a way to do it in WordPress? Are there supposed to be two photos or just one featured image?

Hi Brenda, that may be because you've added the image in the content itself AND as a featured image. You only want one of the images inserted (either in the content itself or as a Featured Image). If that's not the issue, I would recommend switching to the GeneratePress theme, as it may be a theme-related issue. Let me know how you go!

Tim, no matter what, no amount of convincing you can do to me to switch to GP, I will never change to GP again. I am happy with Kadence. I don't know why it shows two, I will have to figure it out later. I inserted it in the block editor as a featured image, but it shows up as two when you open the blog post. It shows at the top, then in the content. It's both above the title and below the title. It's supposed to be set as one. I will have to find some Kadence tutorials to figure out how to solve that.

Ok fair enough lol. And as for the issue you've described, if you've only added it once, then it may be a theme thing and their support may be able to help you out.

Apparently you've had issues with using GP? May I ask what you don't like about it? I'm using it and haven't had any issues yet, but if there's issues I'm unaware of, I'd like to know about them.

Hello Brenda

Sorry to hear about your issue with the featured image on your website. Tim is right it could be a theme issue. Have you tried removing the image from in the content and seeing if that makes any difference?

I use the Astra theme on my main website and different themes on my other websites. I have had issues with some themes causing writing and images to display incorrectly. I don't like Generate Press either because it looks very plain and boring. I also don't like the way it displays some things. I have it only on one of my websites but I'm not a fan of it.

Astra, Kadence and other similar themes are much better in my opinion so I think you should stick with Kadence if that's the one you like best. There is a way to know for sure if you issue with the featured images is related to your theme or not. Install another theme but leave kadence installed to and switch to another theme and refresh the page to see if it makes any difference.

After that switch back to kadence and refresh the page again and see what happens. If switching themes solves your problem you know it's an issue with kadence but if your problem is the still the same on a different theme it is probably something else causing the issue. I hope this makes sense to you.

I did this once when I had an issue with images not displaying correctly on one of my websites and this is how I determined it was a theme issue because as soon as i switched themes my problem was solved but when I switched back to the theme I was originally using my images were displaying incorrectly again.

You could also contact WA Site Support if this doesn't work and you can't solve the issue on your own. They should be able to help you. I have been a bit inactive on WA because I have been sick but let me know how things go and if you need any further help I'm happy to investigate this issue for you when I'm feeling better.

I hope this helps you and makes sense. I wish you good luck and I hope you get your issue with the featured image sorted out soon. Let me know if I can be of any further help. I hope you have a great day. All the best to your success.

Regards

Timothy

Hi, Brenda. I have exactly the same issue with the Writee theme. I will have to look into fixing this or changing my theme, all the best.
