Tweak the Meta to Make it Betta!

Okay, now we know all about the Excerpt function. But, as I mentioned a couple of times - if you missed it - there's yet another way!

First, let me show you a brief view of my ALL POSTS list within WordPress - and how this article shows within my WP Dashboard:

Okay, I had to shrink the crap outta that, but you should be familiar with this screen. It's simply a list of posts. But, you'll notice the two areas I indicated above. One is the SEO Title and the other is the SEO Description.

Yep, they are blank for this post. Because I used the Excerpt function. Again, the search engines didn't care. But, IF you were wondering why these fields are blank, NOW YOU KNOW!!

Okay, now for method 2 of how to manually Tweak the meta description to help sell that click on the SERPs.

Let's dive back into the post editor of this article again.

Now, this time I have adjusted the All-in-One SEO title WITHIN THE POST editor so it looks like this.....

As you can see it's no longer dimmed out. Because I manually copied the Excerpt and put it into the Description box. I also manually typed the title. (Even though it is also pulled automatically from the top by AIO - I'm just anal retentive like that.)

Also, got a bit more descriptive withe the AIO keywords.

So, now this will show up on the All Posts screen like all the others.

NOW, you are empowered with the knowledge to help push your click rates up when you links do finally appear within the search engine results pages.

But, wait..... there are a couple of wee things to keep in mind!

Thanks for this training! Very helpful!!

Just a question about something related...authorship. What should you do when authorship doesn't work and there's not picture beside the description? Is it very necessary and does it make a big difference in clicks?

Google ended support for "authorship" coding (aka rel=author) back in 2014 and announced that they were no longer going to look at that data. So, I'm gonna say it doesn't make a difference. Now, there are other circumstances that do, like Local SEO. If you can get an image in there, DO IT! It's worth a thousand words, right? :-)

Hi pj! Thx for this tutorial, I've been using the 2nd method, but sometimes lazy to fill up the Meta Desc. until I read your post here today! So, I quickly updated them! lol But, when I tried to search using google to check if the changes have been reflected, it haven't. How long do you think it will take to take effect?

Yea, that will take some time to reflect. Not sure exactly how long. Depends on when the search bots visit again.

Oic, I found out that in some of my post, the Google was intelligent enough to pick the most relevant sentences from my post to represent the Meta Desc. Better than my rewrite version.. hehe..
Anyway, thx again for taking the time to share this knowledge with us!
Have a nice weekend! :-)

This was very helpful and now I am going to go back to all my pages and posts to a Meta Description because you're right it could mean the difference between page 1 and page 3. Thank you for sharing your insight and perspective knowledge. This is why I love WA. The people make it great!

Have a great weekend,
