The Notes Section for Meta Descriptions
If you're ever unsure of what your website is using for Meta Descriptions - perhaps you're having plug-ins that are fighting for this function. You can always go to your actual post within your browser, Right-Click, Select View Source and you'll see something similar to this:
I sectioned this line out for clarity, of course.
Now, a couple of things to keep in mind.
Whatever you set as your meta keywords will show up in bold within the SERPs:
You only have about 150-160 characters to deal with here, so be selective, but creative like you would with your headlines. Include your keywords up front when you're able.
Also, avoid the use of quotes or any other special characters within your Meta Descriptions for these have been known to block some of the search engines from reading them properly.
And, for those of you pondering it, YES, there are plug-ins that can help your snippets - But, there is yet ANOTHER plug-in to weigh down your page load speeds. So, I just handle it with one of the two methods mentioned here.
Again, this won't ALWAYS be the case.Don't force it. The search engines will pull what is relevant IF your article isn't actually what you describe it as within the meta description function.
Also, you can change these items without worry to update old posts and pages, just DON'T mess with the permalinks! That will mess up the current ranking (index) of the page!
Lastly, be careful not to duplicate your meta titles or meta descriptions. Don't confuse the search engines with duplicates. This can also mess up your social sharing.
And there you go! Now, you know all you need to know about meta tags. And, if you implement this, it will enhance your click-through-rates in the search listings absolutely FREE!
If you found any of this helpful, PLEASE "Like" this training and comment below. It keeps me doing these things. :-)
