8. Click the Activate button.

Notification Bar will show up in your list of plugins.

9. Click Notification Bar in the lefthand menu.

You arrive at the General Settings page of Notification Bar.
Note: For this tutorial, I used the free version.

10. Tick the "Enable Notification bar" box.
11a. (Optional) If you have Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, or Google+ accounts and would like the link buttons to appear in the bar, tick the "Show/hide" box under "Social Network Section."
11b. (Optional) If you don't like the "Heading Text," you can change it.
11c. (Optional) Tick the box for each social account you want to include.
11d. (Optional) Fill in the URL for each social account you want to include.
12. Under "Notification Type," make sure "Text" is chosen and not "Opt-in form."
13. Under "Display Mode," I chose "Normal." You should choose whatever suits you.
14. In the box to the right of "Notification Text," type in the message you want visitors to read.

Note: If want to link to one or more of your legal pages, you can do that with html. Here's how:
Use the code below. Remove the "1" and replace it with the link to the page. (Leave the quotation marks.) Remove the "2" and replace it with the name of the page.
<a href="1">2</a>
Do this for each page you want to provide the link to.

Note: I don't recommend you copy my "Notification Text," but if you do, know that the link I used is for Google's Terms of Use and you'll need to replace it with your own.

15. Under "Notification Bar Controls," I chose "Show Only Once" and "User Can Close." You should choose whatever suits you.
16. Click the blue "Save" button.

You'll be brought back to the top of the page and see the message: "Settings Saved Successfully."
If you don't get that message, check to see if you're connected to the internet. (It could have gone out without you noticing.)
If you have an internet connection, click "Save" again.
If that doesn't work, or if you got an error message and you can't solve the problem, contact Site Support. (WA site > SiteRubix button in the lefthand menu > Site Support)

17. Click the "Display Settings" button directly beneath the "General Settings" button on the lefthand side of the page.

Here's where you can get artistic. The free version limits bar placement to top or bottom of your pages (Pro version adds options for left and right,) but you can play around with everything else and customize your bar to a high degree.
Note: You'll see a couple options for "Hover Color." Select colors for them if you want the social icons on your bar to change color when visitors hover their cursors over them.

On page 4 (the last page,) you can see the bars I created.

Hey Sharon,

You're a gem. I ended up leaving the bar across the top AND in the default colour so it's IN THEIR FACE so there can be no excuses. Thank YOU for this!

Hi, Trish.

Thanks!

lol! That's hilarious. It gave me a great laugh!

That default color's so ugly, there's no way they can miss it. I'm going to be laughing about this all day. :D

Hi, Michael.

You're very welcome. Thank you for your like and your comment!

Do you do anything special on your sites, to comply with these laws?

I know some people intentionally don't because they feel the laws are not well thought out, are poorly written and are all but unenforceable.

Every time I think of this (linked) post, I crack up. Warning: adult language.

Oh, hey - I was just at your training: I gave it a "like" and a comment!

I just put in the standard disclaimers. I'm probably like 99% out there taking a chance on legal exceptions based on the law of averages!
Thanks for the training comment. It's the only training I've done. I plan to do more in future!

I'd say you're probably not far off with that percentage estimate - and that's excluding all the people who don't even know about the laws.

I'm sure I've worried way too much over this issue. I know research for it took away a lot of time from working on my site.

I've got it sorted to my satisfaction now, though. So, other than doing a check for changes/new laws a few times a year, I'm done with it!

I was surprised you only had that one training. I'll look forward to reading more of them when you can find some time to write them.
