How This Looks On A Practical Level In Your Business

Now so far this may all seem pretty abstract so let's look at it on a practical level how you'd use this in your website and business...

When creating content you'd first consider which "awareness level" you wanted to target (you might create multiple pieces of content that target different levels of awareness or focus simply on one or two levels, it's really up to you) and then determine which content types would work best.

So let's say you were targeting the lower levels of awareness (3 to 5) you would want to create more newbie to intermediate level content.

In the online marketing niche some examples would be:

You see why, right? Because these content types all appeal to newcomers who are less aware.

They aren't advanced or overly sophisticated topics that only those with lots of experience would be interested in.

And they wouldn't interest most advanced or aware users at all.

It's a simple process of thinking about what type of content and topics would resonate with your audience and giving it to them.

Don't over complicate or think this just use common sense based on what you know about your niche, your audience, and the competition.

If you've picked a niche you already know well or have carried out your research then you will have a good instinct about this.

Wrapping This Up

This isn't an easy topic to wrap your head around at first so don't stress if this seems complex.

Just remember; there's no right or wrong choice. Your target market are made up of people in EVERY section of the awareness scale and it's up to you which you target.

Here's the important thing...

Your experience of the niche may force you to target lower down on the awareness scale because you don't have the knowledge to target more advanced users.

And you know what, that's absolutely fine as the lower down on the scale means more opportunity, a larger target audience, and that your prospect has been less exposed to your competition, the offers, the solutions and products in your niche meaning they are not as sceptical as someone who has “heard it all before” and believes nothing.

If you're a more advanced marketer with lots of experience in your niche you can comfortably target higher up the awareness level scale.

Just don't over complicate this or let overwhelm or fear of “doing it wrong” stop you from progressing.

Even if you can't get your head around this right now in time you'll figure out by default (by taking action, creating content, marketing, and attracting customers) which awareness level you are targeting, as it will happen naturally.

This is great information for us. I am still fairly new in the MMO niche. I understand totally what you are saying here.

I see where being new my target audience would be in the similar shape I’m in. The funny thing is that even as my experience with the topic grows, my awareness level will change and I will be able write a little bit in the upper awareness areas as well.

That leads me to wonder...if we can target all the awareness levels with our websites...sort of break it down by categories...just a thought.

Great training.
