You should take control of the tagged photos that appear on your profile by making changes to your Instagram setting. By doing this, you'll be able to bar any tagged photos from showing up unless they have been approved by you.
To effect this change, under "Options", you'll find "Photos of You" under which you will select "Add Manually". This should help you avoid any embarrassment from unsavory photos showing up on your Instagram profile.
You should also scan for any unwanted tagged photos on your profile and then remove them. If you're unable to delete it, click on "Edit Tags", and select the ones that you would like removed, choose "Hide from Profile" and they become invisible to others.
