I think I've broken my website!

I installed ZenCache Plugin at the recommendation of others, and now I can't log back into my website!

What did I do wrong?

I've submitted a Support Ticket, but have to wait for their reply, in the meantime I cannot work on my site!

Hey Edu,

We've already got back to your support ticket and disabled the plugin. You can login to your site now.

Carson

I am using Zen Cache also and there is an update available. Is Edu's problem an isolated one or is it a global issue?

John

You are amazing Carson! You and your team leave me astounded! That's just ... WOW!

Hi John, I was waiting to see if you had an answer from Carson. Perhaps it would be best to PM him. It would be good to know if it is a global problem or if it's just me! :-)

Hey Sarah... errr I mean Edu,
That's 2 scares for you within 1 week.
First you thought your WA account had been hacked, and now this.
Glad it's all sorted out! :)

I guess that's true, but we move onward and upward with undying perseverance, which leads to success! Thank you for your care and support! :-)

I'm starting to get the feeling that not all plugins are for everyone. I've been following the recommendations in the Cert. Training, but have recently started to open my mind up to inputs from others ... that I trust. I'm not looking for "bells and whistles", just professional functionality and presentation.

You saved your site file using Tools > Export, or something equivalent, before you installed ... right? It's so easy using Tools > Export. You're right there in Admin ... a few clicks and you're backed up. Then can click over to Plugins.

Looks like Tech Support "has your back" on this one. It would be interesting to know if they recommend the Plugin you attempted to install.

Hi Dennis, I've never backed up my site before.
May I know, is that how I backup my site?
Is it something I need to do regularly or only when I am installing a new plugin?
Thank you.

I do not know if they do or do not recommend it, yes it would be interesting to know.

The support team were fantastic!

It's a good practice to save/backup your site once a day if possible, or every 2nd or 3rd day depending on how much you are working on it.

Yes, that is how you back it up.

Thanks, Edu. :)

I'm pretty sure this is covered in the Certification Training ... not sure about Bootcamp Training. How often it should be done is a function of how often you change or add to your site. Kyle will cover that. I'm probably not as regular as I should be, but I do it before I update or add to my to Plugins installed, because it's so easy to do as I explained above.

Thanks, Dennis.
I have not reached that part of the Cert Training yet, but have learnt it here.
Appreciate your reply.

It's a great pleasure! :-)

Awesome, now you can be all happy Edu!!! Haaa

Absamalootely! :-)))))))

Hi Edu
... yeah, I think I saw that post.
You did the right thing contacting support, and Carson says you're good to go. That's a frightening feeling - glad all is well!

Yep! It certainly was VERY frightening! All that hard work! But man, I'm still all astounded! Great work Carson, Kyle and all the support team! I even went so far as to uninstall my browser and download it again and reinstall!

Plugin's can do that. Wait for support, they will be able to help. Loes is right, always test plugins on a test site first.

Thanks Jean! Great advice! Being new at this and reading others comments, I thought it was okay. But yes, I guess it's good to test it first. Is there a special way to create a test site?

support should be able to help. In the meantime you can still do research, keyword research and even write articles in word until you get the problem sorted

Thanks, I was thinking along those lines, but support was so lightening fast, I didn't even have time to do that! :-)

You are right, fortunately, I have only needed support once but, they were excellent

Sorry. Had a problem myself over the weekend. My visual editor stopped working and my html is not good enough to work without it. Time is not short, Only life is.

Thanks for your concern. It's great to have such a wonderful group of friends and supporters all in one place! This community is amazing.

OhNo, don't you have a test website to test plugins?
I have wrecked several test website, trying out plugins
Hope they can help you soon

No I don't Loes - this is the first time I read of the concept. Is it easy to set one up?

Yeah, go to website builder>create domainname, eduwreck.siterubix.com build site, take the same theme you have on your regular website and when you have wrecked it, delete and start over again, you can do that with the same domainname again

Thanks soooo much Loes! You are such a star shining brightly! :-)

Just completed it! Well done Loes! Great advice!

You're welcome Edu:)

:-))))

Oh me oh my! Oh dear!

Don't worry, I'm quite sure support team will be able to restore your website to its previous state.

You are so correct! I've never seen such lightning fast response and a quick solution in all my life! WA Support Team - YOU ROCK! Amazing! Incredible! Outstanding!

BTW! I don't normally use that expression - YOU ROCK - it's a no-no for an English Teacher - but this is exceptional service! Absolutely!
