OK Guys and Gals, I Need Some Help!

I'm working with a client that is pretty much a start up. They don't have any marketing materials, no target market, and they're just all over the place. But, they have a service that seems promising and the funding to really make the company a success.

I was originally brought on to handle their social media and blog posting, but this has quickly turned into something else. I'm used to working with companies that are either already established or know exactly who they're marketing to.

My question has 3 parts:

  1. I'm thinking about doing a Google Consumer Survey to test the market and find out if the product would even be worth all of this. Does that sound like a good starting point?
  2. The service is a yearly membership program that pays your home insurance deductible up to $2,500. Homeowners, would you buy into a membership program like this?
  3. If you were to become interested in this kind of program, what would you look for in the company as far as them proving to be reputable, and what kind of documentation would you expect to receive with the program? Would you be OK with an electronic membership card and the ability to login to your account online?

I'm just trying to get as much information and data together as possible, and I thought this would be a good place to do a quick poll.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, I'll send virtual coffee to anyone that responds :)

Cheers!

I like your idea for #1. I personally don't like membership programs but if I were to consider it would need a lot of information, I always look to see if a company is bbb approved and look for other customer reviews. I'm not sure what that would look like with a new company. How would it physically work/pay out? We would not buy into something that had an online only membership card either. Sounds like it would be too easy to be a scam- without having more background info. from you. Trying to give you an honest opinion. Best of luck with it! :) Amy

Thank you!

My initial thoughts were like yours about the BBB and what not. I also know that some people do not trust online memberships, which is why I was thinking that perhaps we needed to invest in real membership cards and mailers.

I appreciate your opinion. Sending virtual coffee :)

I think on your first part I would say yes what better than Google on the second part it would depend on the membership fee and on the third part I would want to see some history of the company and what they have done to make their company grow and a list of happy customers hope this helps all the best

Yeah, you're spot on with me on the Google survey. I think it would really help to nail down the market. Good to know that the fees also play a role in the decision making.

I personally think it's gonna be a hard sell because there are no customers to give testimonials. We were thinking about giving away a few memberships, but even then, we need people to actually call in an insurance claim before they can see that the company really does pay the deductible.

Something to think about...

Thank you for your help! Sending you virtual coffee (hazelnut)!!

I suppose what I would want to know is how good is the policy, people will always pick a cheaper option but if the cover is bad then its a no go.

You're right about that.

The policy is pretty straight forward-as long as the insurance company approves the claim, the deductible gets paid-no questions asked,

I think that people will appreciate the fact that this is a no-hassle program, and that the yearly membership fee is very affordable.

But like everyone else mentioned, credibility is a big thing, especially when it comes to sending in insurance coverage proof and other personal data.

I'll give this a shot. It's gonna a take some creativity and time though,

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it :) Sending you virtual coffee (Starbucks!!)
