My experience with Fiverr
First, let me say that I think Fiverr and its ilk are fantastic. For little jobs that need more technical ability than I have, or for when I'm feeling lazy, it really is the right thing at the right price usually served as quickly and easily as a Big Mac.
But. And that's what this piece is about. But...unlike a Big Mac, the standard is variable. Variable's a good word. A wonderful euphemism. A gloriously woolly, plausibly deniable way of saying crap. I'm waffling, because I don't want to be too critical.
However.
I asked a writer to write a thousand words on the skills needed to be a freelance writer. It was something she could write with authority about from first-hand experience.
She did. Sort of. 800 words of tosh and 200 words of filler. Freelance fluff.
'It's so important to edit your wrok,' she wrote. 'It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.' Seems it didn't. And a lot more of the same.
I edited her wrok, which took more than 10 minutes, and posted it. Tipped her, too, as is customary. And was left feeling variable.
In fairness, what else could reasonably be expected for 20 bucks in exchange for 1,000 words? I don't begrudge her a penny of it. You have to admire anyone who will offer to write on any subject and return the work within 24 hours. That takes commitment, generosity of spirit and a sense of adventure. Good on her!
Fiverr is hit and miss. You take your chance. If you're lucky, you strike gold. If you're not, you don't. That's the deal. No problem.

I have used fiverr a lot. My logos are all done by the same seller--she and I just click and she does beautiful work.
Writers...well, I agree, it depends. I have found some that are very good. Others need to consider working on their skills, in my opinion. I end up editing even the best, but I am probably critical because it goes on my sites.
