Site Feedback vs Site Comments

Several WA members seem to be confused about using "Site Feedback" and "Site Comments". Thanks to "Electrobot" for bring up the subject in his Blog.

Site Feedback and Site Comments have two very different uses. They can be found across the top of your Site Manager page in Site Rubix. You will need to give two feedbacks for each feedback you would like to receive. The same is true for comments. Give two comments for each one you would like to receive.

SITE FEEDBACK should be used when reviewing a site with an eye on the technical parts of the site. This is the place that we, as a community, can help each other tweak our sites.

For instance, when reviewing a site you notice grammar or spelling errors. As we all know, it's hard to correct that which we create. It's very easy to miss things. By pointing that out to the administrator, they now have the chance to correct those minor errors and give their visitors a better experience.

Perhaps the site looks a little too "busy" to us or maybe doesn't have long enough posts for our tastes. We can point that out as constructive criticism. The site owner may like it that way or maybe didn't realize it. Either way, by pointing out different thoughts to a site owner we are offering a chance for them to rethink their ideas and adjust them accordingly. The point is to help the site owner give a better experience to their visitors.

Feedback does NOT show up on their site.

SITE COMMENTS should be used when reviewing a site with an eye to the content on the site. Comments, once approved, show up in the Comments section of that particular site. That means your views will be visible to any and all visitors to that site.

This is NOT the place for technical, web building advise! When I review a site for Comments I explore the whole site, not just the landing page. I look for things that peak my interest. Then I write my comments with those interests in mind.

For example, I recently reviewed a site on mountain climbing. I am not a mountain climber myself. Never have been, never will be. That did not deter me from leaving positive comments. I went through several pages on the site. One page was dedicated to equipment reviews.

My comments on this site was to thank the site owner for giving a very detailed comparison of a particular type of equipment. I also asked him what mountain (in my area) he would recommend to new climbers and what equipment would be necessary for that climb.

My reason for asking questions here is, hopefully, to get a dialog going on the site. I'm sure we can all agree that dialog is a very good thing on our sites. Remember, your comment WILL show up on the site, once approved. Please keep it positive!

I use both Feedback and Comments on a regular basis. I have had a lot of GREAT ideas on my sites from Feedback. The comments I receive show up on my site and give non-WA visitors some insight into other pages on my site. And they aren't afraid of being the first to leave a comment!

And, as an added bonus, by reviewing other sites I am getting some ideas that I can use to create a positive experience for the visitors to MY sites.

I hope this article helps to clear up any questions you may have about SITE FEEDBACK and SITE COMMENTS. I believe that the more of us that use these two features, the better we will all become.

Wishing you much success,

TERRY

You quite welcome.

Great explanation on the differences. Thank you for reminding us all of this. Jim

Thanks for your kind comment. I hope this will help any who aren't sure of their uses.

Your right and I agree with the comments and feedback. Comments are like extra content for the reader while the feedback should be more personal to the contentee

Thanks Billy. Exactly what I had in mind.
