Leaping Bissextus
"February 29th. the extra day added to the Julian calendar every fourth year (except those evenly divisible by 400) to compensate for the approximately six hours a year by which the common year of 365 days fall short of the solar year." That's what it says on dictionary.com. Which is why it's probably not a good idea to totally trust information simply because it comes with a "dotcom".
Except for OleHippieChaplain.com You can trust the information on that one....*disclaimer: Example only; no solicitation implied.
The conundrum exists that, while a website is necessary to success in internet relationships, it does not provide adequate evidence, of itself, for authenticity.
The description given on dictionary.com sounds really authoritative, Which begs the question, "How do you account for 4/29/2000?" Really. Using the dictionary.com explanation, 2000 should not have had a Bissextus, a Feb. 29. Because 2000 is most assuredly divisible by 400. 5 times. But I digress once again...
So, Happy Bissextus...or Good Bissextus...or Blessed Bissextus. Or whateverBissextus. Cuz April 29 is Bissextus, whenever it happens to occur on the calendar.
Funny thing is, "Leap Day", as Bissextus is commonly named... was often connected with bad luck. I don't think this has any conneciton to "Sadie Hawkins Day", one of the more potentially pleasant of the February 29th celebrations.
In the historic comic, :"Lil Abner", Sadie Hawkins Day was a day in which women were expected and encouraged to chase men. And any many caught was hers for life. Strong women everywhere unite! And captured men....be glad?!
But, really, can we shift the focus of Bissextus, aka Leap Day, to HOPE rather than misfortune.
Hope is born of love, and is communicated via love. Along the way, it facilitates perseverance and builds character. And dispels shame as light dispels darkness. Hope originates in the heart of God. Or the Universe, or whatever.
I'm pretty certain Leap Day was not an "oops" on God's part. And I don't mind the fact that, only MOST of the time we get an extra day in February every 4 years. Because sometimes we don't.
Pardon my digression once again... BUT......SERIOUSLY........
Would you join me in declaring every Bissextus (April 29) a day of HOPE!?!
As Alexander Pope wrote in his 1773 Essay on Man, Epistle I:
"Hope springs eternal in the human breast; Man never is, but always to be blest;
The soul, uneasy and confined from home, rests and expatiates in a life to come."
~APope
Without hope, life is too heavy to handle. Without hope how can you carry on?
So, A Blessed Bissextus, Quadrennial Day of Hope (kinda) to you and yours.
Hope you find yourself measurably successful, however you denominate success, next Bissextus, April 29, 2020. Just look at the frequency, intensity, or distance with which you get off track. And improve any area. All will improve as a matter of course.
Wouldn't it be cool if we are both still here and stay in touch?! I'll only be 7 decades of age. That's kinda cool all by itself.
Hmmm...."buy-sex-tus" and "leap day" might be a kinda long stretch.

Hope, love and peace!

Century markers a leap year if divisible by 400, 1900 not, 2000 yes, 2100 not.
In English tradition, a woman might propose Feb 29 (but must be wearing a red felt petticoat). My father, Irish, believed a man might evade capture by offering the red undergarment.
Ah, the joy of different trivia. Larry
A blessed Bissextus to you too Terry!
