The Biggest Mistake I Made When Getting Started Online

Today I want to talk about some mistakes I have made over the years since I first started out trying to make money online. I have made a few mistakes which I will talk about briefly but there is one big mistake I made that I want cover in a bit more detail. So hopefully you will avoid these costly mistakes to.

What Mistakes Have I Made?

I have been into making money online since late 2018 and at that time I had no idea what I was doing and I believed almost everything I heard which was my first mistake.

Luckily I never spent any money on anything and didn't get scammed because I kept trying to follow the free methods shown on YouTube to get rich quickly but I failed and never made any money.

I have made a few other mistakes over the years and they were ones that most people make in the beginning.

• Listening to fake gurus
• Believing the fake gurus
• Watching hundreds of YouTube videos
• Trying to get rich quick and not taking the time to find out the truth
• Trying the same strategies over and over even though they weren't working
• Spamming links all over social media and trying to get people to buy the products I was trying to promote

As you can see I made quite a few mistakes and it wasn't until I came across a legit YouTuber that talked about paid survey websites and I gave it a try which was what made me my first few dollars online in 2019.

Later that year I came to Wealthy Affiliate for the first time ever after hearing about it on a make money online website. I joined, followed the training and got my first website set up but I still didn't want to see the truth and kept hoping I'd get rich quick.

Following this I quit WA in 2020 and then again 2021 before starting another online business in June 2022 outside of WA which is still my main business today. But the way I started it lead me to the biggest mistake I ever made online.

My Biggest Mistake Online

When I started my new online business in June 2022 I started on social media by creating short posts about affiliate products and posting them on my social media pages and in Facebook groups.

I did this for a few weeks and I even got a bit lucky as one of my affiliate links got 300 clicks in one day but no sales which is still my best day in terms of clicks in the history of my affiliate marketing journey.

This excited me so I kept doing it but I ended up failing and giving up for a couple of months. I later started up again and started trying countless free marketing strategies that I saw on YouTube to promote my business and affiliate products.

This ultimately lead to me getting some posts and comments removed on Facebook for spam and temporarily losing my business Pinterest account until I explained to Pinterest what happened and they gave me my account back.

By this point it was late 2022 and I had my new online business for around 5 months and I was getting really frustrated. I then started to realize that I was doing it all wrong. So I ended up getting a website in December 2022 for my business and also returned to Wealthy Affiliate.

I set up my website and start writing blog posts but I also was making another mistake since the beginning of starting this business which was having two completely different niches on one website and on my social media pages and no matter what anyone said I wouldn't listen.

I continued doing this for many more months until I finally realized after some advice from an experienced WA member I needed to get rid of one niche from my website so I did and kept my website about technology.

Since then things have improved but I haven't made much money from my website which is again mostly my fault due to lack of consistency and always letting something get in the way of me posting regularly on my website. Consistency is key to success in any online business and I will be making sure I stay consistent this year.

What You Should Do To Avoid My Biggest Mistake

So after all my failures which was mostly due to me being stubborn and thinking I knew best and could make things work I have learned how things really work online. That is the reason I'm so quick to help beginners on WA by answers the questions and creating blog posts on my WA blog.

If you are just starting out you should not do what I did. The best way to avoid my mistakes and save yourself from months of pain and frustration is to do things the right way to start with.

You need to follow the training on WA and get yourself a website. Your website is your foundation for your business and your key to success. This is very important because without a website you won't be very successful.

Once you get through the training don't stop there. Keep creating content and keep learning as well. Don't give up and keep at it to get yourself to where you want to be.

2. Set up your website and apply what you learn
3. Monetize your website when you have a decent amount of content
4. Consistently create new and quality content
5. Be patient and never give up
6. Keep learning and building your business

That's basically the steps to creating a successful business and that is what I should have done in the beginning. If I did this I could be much better off than where I am with my online business today.

It's also a good idea to have a business plan which is something I didn't do properly. I had a basic business plan but I never took the time to thoroughly plan things for my business and make a detailed business plan. This is something that can help you a lot and I recommend you do this when starting your online business.

If you do things correctly and the way it should be done you will avoid the mistakes I made and be off to a much better start than I was. process I listed above is what I will be doing with my next business.

You should also be aware that there are no get rich quick schemes online. Building an online business and becoming successful takes a lot of time, effort and dedication. So don't try to make money fast as you will only waste time and fail.

Most importantly stay away from anyone or anything that claims it will teach you how to get rich quick as it is a lie and a scam. You should always do thing the right way which is the way Wealthy Affiliate teaches you. If you be consistent and put in the work required you can and will build a successful online business.
