One thing I like to do whenever I'm starting a new site is determine what the top sites in my niche are. Because that can give me content ideas, product promotion ideas, and generally give me an idea of what is already working for other sites in the niche.
In this video, I'll show you how to identify the top sites in a given niche and show you why this is an important part of the business-building process.

what I do is, is just place my competitor's sites in Moz, look up wich keywords they rank for ( you get plenty of surprises for keywords) , and create my own article from that keyword. that's all, you need the keywords that they are ranking for and create better articles than theirs. (not every article on their sites rank well)
Once you work in the same niche for years, you find all the popular ones and I subscribe to their newsletters and such.. :-)
