I've been doing affiliate marketing for almost 10 years, and I have achieved quite a bit in that time. But I've also made my share of mistakes. In this video, I want to share with you 3 of the biggest things I would do differently if I were starting my business from scratch to help you avoid these same pitfalls and reach success much faster.

Hi Tim, thank you for the video. It is exactly what I did last time around. I was so hung up on graphics, pretty pages (which I found very difficult) I was too tired to carry in with important content.
I also had a few niches, and was spreading myself too thin.
My other problem was trying to think of my next article subject. My mind was blank.
NOT this time!!
Thanks for the encouragement.

Good morning Tim,

Thank you for the information, it's appreciated.

It's great that you've been to the Wealthy Affiliate super affiliate conference six times, well done to that!

It's always good to learn from someone who has been there and done that and who is successful!

I've seen loads of people spending loads of time on making their website look pretty, but unfortunately that doesn't bring traffic. My Webmaster in the US told me this years ago, and I have proved it, as my sites aren't particularly pretty, but they seem to work! I understand that the time spent on design could be used for much more productive tasks.

I'm definitely guilty of trying to do too much or too many things, I think part of that comes from enthusiasm, but at the same time it has a negative effect. Focusing on one niche is definitely better, but sometimes it's hard!

One of the ways I try and stay on track is by using the Pomodoro technique, although it's more the timer that helps me , rather than the actual Pomodoro technique, it helps me recognise that time is disappearing quickly. Routine is definitely good and being organised helps a lot. Too many distractions can make me totally lose that flow, if I can get in the flow, then I can achieve a lot!

Being up early in the morning also helps me, as I am definitely a morning person. I like to be up at 5 AM, sometimes before, it definitely helps me achieve more.

Thank you for the great tips, Tim, it's always good to have a sound reminder.

Have a great day.

Roy

Hey Roy,

Thanks for your message – I really appreciate it.

You’re spot on about folks spending too much time making their site “pretty” instead of focusing on what actually moves the needle. It’s something I see all the time. A clean, simple site that’s focused on delivering value will always outperform a fancy design with no traffic or strategy behind it.

And yes, I can definitely relate to trying to do too much. That enthusiasm is a double-edged sword. It’s great to have the drive, but without focus it can lead to spinning wheels. Focusing on just one niche was a big shift for me too, but once I committed to that, things really started to click.

I like your take on using the Pomodoro timer as more of a way to track time passing, that’s a really good insight. Sometimes just being aware of how fast time slips by is enough to get us moving. And I’m with you on the early mornings. There’s something about those quiet hours when everything’s still and you can just get stuff done without distractions.

Keep up the great work!

Good morning Tim,

Thank you for your detailed reply, it's appreciated.

Regarding pretty sites, I had someone quite close to me who really wants to a pretty sight, much time and effort was spent on this process. Sadly, after the initial posts to get the site off the ground looking like it had content, nothing happened! All that effort, for nothing! I see this type of thing all the time.

The Internet is such an amazing place and such a great way to reach people, which fills me with enthusiasm and ideas. The thoughts and ideas may be good, but it definitely stops me reaching my full potential.

I have the time set for the default 25 minutes, I believe it can be adjusted to up to 4 hours. However, for me, it definitely makes me aware of the clock racing round! Maybe I actually ought to try the Pomodoro technique properly, however 25 minutes seems like a very short time to stop for five minutes. I think I would lose focus!

Have a great day.

Roy

Hey, Tim
Thank you for the advice in this video. I’m a novice here, and it’s really useful to have these insights as I find my way around and try not to get overwhelmed. Your suggestions are all about simplicity and focus – I’ll use them as guiderails.

Thanks, Tim. It's great advice. I have already made some of the same mistakes. I recently started again from scratch and am pretty well following your recommendations, having learned from my own experience.

My pleasure, Isabella. Glad you are moving forward with persistence, that's what it's all about!

I think these are great tips, Tim. Thanks. Although I feel I'm making the second one myself with trying to do too many things. I'll refocus and let some things go to focus on getting one thing sorted.

Awesome Gail, sounds good!
