A Grandmother's Quilt
I keep coming back to Tyler Perry's acceptance speech for the Governor's Award at Sunday's Emmys.
He spoke of a quilt from his grandmother and tied that to the inspiration it led to later in his life.
The funny part is, we also had several quilts from our grandmother that we used and tossed about. As my siblings and I "came of age" we were searching for our own identities and, like Tyler Perry, did not find it at the time in those quilts.
Now that I am 64, I look back on things in a different way. It's not about the quilt, it's about life and how our lives intertwine together. Each of us has our own desires and passions, yet, here we are, sharing a common goal.
I am grateful to have found WA. Thank you to everyone who has offered a virtual "hale and hearty handshake" (guess the movie reference...) and "howdy-doo".
Finally, I was not able to include a link to the speech - I encourage you to look it up on YouTube and watch - it's about 2 minutes long.
