How I Reached Page 1 After 2 Days

Wanted to make record of a small win, and figured this was as good a place as any.

Last week – four days after creating my first page of content – I received an email saying someone had signed up as an email subscriber to my website.

His name is James, he's from the United States.

I wrote back, asking where he had found out about my website from and he said he'd been searching Google and found me. Sure enough, when I went to check – there was someone who had arrived via one of the very low competition keywords I'd been targeting.

So I opened up an incognito tab (also known as "porn mode") and did a search for the term and there I was...

I Am on Page #1 of Google 2 Days After Publishing The Post

Now, I'll be the first to admit this isn't a killer keyword. I think it's getting 60 searches per month, but it does prove that...

  • There's traction
  • There's opportunity
  • I'm doing something right
  • NEEDS MORE CONTENT!!!

How You Can Do The Same Thing

Rather than offer step-by-step instructions, I'm going to give you something better.

The secret is: there's no secret. The secret is you need to get content out. Now. Today. Not perfect, but great quality. Take what I say here, and despite all the questions you have, go crush out a blog post.

Here's what I knew would help for my first week:

  • I finished all my structural pages (About, Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, Home, etc).
  • I published 4 blog posts, each targeting keywords that get around 100 monthly searches.
  • Each blog post was are around 1,000 words.
  • I was consistent.

Each day, my morning routine looked something like...

  • Read 3 articles currently on page 1 for the keyword I'm targeting.
  • Write a rough draft, edit, and finish the blog post (pro tip: start with a brain dump).
  • Find images for the post.
  • Publish post.
  • Research keywords for tomorrow's posts, then select 3 articles for tomorrow's post.

That's it!

I tried hard to wrote great posts that were helpful, but didn't get caught up in perfect. Here, now, today it's not abut being perfect. It's about being active. Make it work. Click Publish.

Seriously... go hit publish.

If you get in the habit of doing something, moving on, and then if you seriously think it's necessary (pro tip: it's not yet), revisiti it after a few weeks once you've had a bit more experience and some time to think it over.

Was this helpful? Should I keep posting here? Let me know in the comments...

Superb tips :)

Congratulations, very useful tips you've given, thank you:)

Thanks Jazmin :) It's pretty straight forward stuff, but meant to aim us all back at the fact that when you're first getting started, you don't need visitors, you don't need sales, or links to products, or affiliates.

You need a good and deep set of content for Google to start understanding your site and what it's about.

If we keep a focus on content, the rest will come in good time :)

Makes perfect sense Chris, Thanks for putting it in a way I can understand:)

Good work!

Fred, thanks for stopping by. It reminds me of the proverb, "How do you eat an elephant?"

"One bite at a time."

Hope you're having a great week! Onward and upward!

Well Done on your page 1 achievement :) This will certainly help to inspire others, and thanks for your tips too. Neil

Hi Neil, thanks for your words of encouragement. I like to think we're in it together here at WA, and therefore an accomplishment for all of us.

I feel like it's only a matter of time before sales start trickling in.

The only thing between me and that first sale is busting my butt to get more great content, surrounding keywords that people are looking for.

Thinking of it like that emphasizes the simplicity of it all :)

That is a great routine you've established! I might just have to borrow some of that to help me focus. Thank you for this post.

Thanks Cody,

Did crossfit for a year and enjoyed it. In the end I joined stuck with martial arts over it but I was blown away at how my body felt and looked after just a couple months. Impressive.

Borrow as much of my routine as you need to! I wrote it to help us all learn and to encourage people to take action creating awesome content.
