When I, or anyone else, shares my URL: www.barfdiet.org into FB the header image shows as

Hi, Dee, wow - I love your site - Awesome images! A few things for you to check:

1. Have you set a Home Image link in the Home Page Settings of the All in One SEO plugin?

2. You can also set a default image in the Default OG:Image
section of the plugin.

3. Make sure the FB settings are selected correctly e.g. Tick Blog (not website).

4. After you have checked those, while logged in to FB, visit the link below by pasting it into your browser and do the debugger test to see if you have other issues that need fixing:

https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

In the meantime, when posting on FB, try the alternative of uploading the image and add the link in the description box of the image. That is only useful when you post, not when someone tries to share your post, so it is a temporary measure until you find the solution.

Hope something above helps. ~Jude

Hi Jude,
Thanks for your reply.
I currently don't have a Home page created or published within my pages section. But I do have a Home page listed on my top menu with my URL linked to it so my blogroll is seen as my landing or home page...could this be the problem?
And, if so, how would I create a Home page to correct the situation?
Would I need to make a static Home page and use my first blog post as the content?
The Natural Balance Pet Food post is ideally what I want visitors to read first when arriving on my site as this is the main info on what my site and the BARF diet is all about. But not sure if this would cause problems with duplicate content and it would also be great if I could include all the great comments on this post as well.
Cheers,
Dee

"But I do have a Home page listed on my top menu with my URL linked to it so my blogroll is seen as my landing or home page...could this be the problem?" Yes!

Your home page link should be: http://yourcomain.org

Do not add the word "home" as an extension. WordPress knows by default that the home page is the blogroll if you have selected it in Settings > Reading > choose "Latest Posts".

With the blogroll as your default home page, you do not need to add it to the Home Page Setting in the All in One SEO. If you do, it should be your domain url, as above, without any extensions. Do not use "www" or "home" in the link.

You do not need to make a static or any new page on your website

Check the permalink for the natural balance pet food post.

You have http://yourdomain.org/home - remove "home". It should be:

http://yourdomain.org/natural-balance-pet-food.

Make sure that all of your images sizes at their original sources are at 200 px by 200 or larger. FB does not recognize any image that is smaller at its original source. Looking at your images, I don't think this is an issue, but I did not check your original image sizes.

Let me know when you've done the above adjustments and if it has not helped, we can try something else.

~Jude

Hi Jude, followed your instructions and debugged and now all is showing great, thanks so much for your help :)

Dee, so glad you got it worked out. :-)

Have you tried this?

Hi Kathy, Yes I have tried this and it shows a large image above my post, which i don't really like...I want to have my header image in some way attached to my URL when sharing my website to social networks...but anyways thanks for your suggestion.

The only way I've found to solve this is to do as Jerry suggested, add your header image to FB first then write but, I know this isn't the solution you want.
Hopefully Jude's suggestions will get this sorted out. :)

This is theme issue, the same is with mine theme 20-10, so do as siamjerry suggested. Jovo

Thanks for your reply Jovo, but I can't see how this will fix the problem with my URL header photo. From my understanding Jerry is talking about blog posts, although I may be wrong, can you clarify?

I assume the two ladies (Jude and Kathy) have helped. Best luck.

My experience was to put in the photo first, downloading from your files, and then write around it. For posts with no photo, I just deleted them and then followed the same procedure.

Thanks Jerry, but it's not the posts that I'm concerned about. But really want my website header photo attached to my URL and feeling rather lost at the moment.

When I click on my post on the left menu bar under recent posts, a page comes up as not found and I have also noticed that the title of the post when hovered over has now become

All seemed to be working that I could find. Really enjoyed your site.

OK, I found what you were referring to. This is usually caused by category selected. You can set up a page to only display certain categories or not show a particular category. Anyway, check your dashboard and look at your posts. There you will find the category that is linked to your post. let me know if you are still having problems. wardle.donald@gmail.com

Hi Don, I have set up a category for the post, as it was shown as uncategorized and I still have the problem when clicking on the post in the sidebar...still comes up as not found.
Also when I try to make this post a sticky, the post disappears completely, why would this be happening? Feeling rather frustrated with what is happening and appreciate your help, thanks

Just a thought...I did attempt to change the name of the post about a week ago, but then changed it back to the original heading, could this be why the problem is occurring?

Also have now taken sticky off and the post has appeared again...do I need more than 1 post to use the sticky feature correctly?

Without looking at your dashboard, I would only be guessing. It sounds like something is wrong with the categories that the page is allowed to display. If you would like to give me your login info I could look at it. Then you could change your passwords etc. My email address is wardle.donald@gmail.com. I won't be back until after 8 tonight but I will be happy to look at it.

I reviewed your entire page and didn't find any links that were broken. Your recent posts were all discovered. Sorry I couldn't give you any bad news. Couldn't find anything to fix.

Just wanted to say thanks again to you all for your advice and to let you know that my site is indexed now and it only took 2 days! :) :) :)

Yes super news :)

Give it a couple of days.

Cheers WK:)

How long ago since you purchased the domain and added to WA hosting? It can take a good 3 days or more for a new registered domain to be indexed.

You can also do a manual index check. Go to Google.com and type:

site:http://barfdiet.org

I just did it and it shows no results, meaning it's indeed not indexed yet. Once it's indexed, you'll see the domain in the search results and also every page/post published so far.

It will index, just give it time and meanwhile keep working on your website. :)

Hope this helps.

All the best,
Nicole

Hi Nicole,

I purchased my domain about 3 weeks ago with namecheap and entered the correct WA DNS's at the time but did not have much content on my site, so decided to wait a while before changing siterubix over.

I too have been doing a manual index search for the past 2 days and nothing indexed with Google yet...as you say, I guess I must be patient :)

Guess what, it's indexed! I attached an image.

Once again, the key is patience. I think that the problem was that you pointed the DNS to it BUT didn't merge your siterubix website with it. Thus, no webhosting connected to it. :)

All the best,
Nicole

Thanks Nicole once again for your valuable help...I checked it earlier today and saw that it was indexed, so only took 2 days which is great!
Have completed more content on my site and was wondering if there is enough content now to start applying for affiliate programs and start monetizing...what are your thoughts?

Hi there,

your website has some great content already, which is very good. I don't know where you're at with the training but Course 3 of the Starter Course is all about monetization.

Course 1 and 2 are there to build the foundation and create valuable content, so that it's ensured that your website ranks and brings in traffic. Monetization won't make sense without traffic. :)

So, my thoughts are that you write some more content as told with each lesson in the training and start monetizing your website when the training tells you to.

Maybe work on a blog roll to get the rankings quicker as a post ranks much better and faster than a page. Google starts to pay attention with around 10-15 blog posts.

You did a great job on this article here and it's written as a post.
http://barfdiet.org/barf-natural-balance-pet-food

Those kind of posts is what your website needs. :)

I hope this helps and you'll get to the monetization part very soon. I did it too early myself and because of a lack of content and traffic, it didn't make any money. I even lost my Amazon associates account because nobody made a sale through my website.

Hope this helps.

Nicole

Thanks Nicole for setting me straight, Im rushing ahead of things as usual...lol

I'm on the last lesson of course 2 and need to complete as you say.

Will need to begin writing new posts now that I have most of my pages covered.

Cheers again :)

LoL...all good. We all want to rush ahead at some point but it's good to stop, even if it means you have to force yourself to slow down.

This will only benefit you in the long run and reward you with awesome results. Once again, patience is key! :)

Have a great weekend!

Nicole

Thanks Nicole :)
Hope your weekend is great !!!

It is. Thank you. :)

My plan is to have my Blog page as my Home page and the rest of my pages to be static, but not sure if this is the best way to proceed.

The idea is to write a large amount

I would consider doing the opposite. The static page gives something consistent about you, your niche, and your brand. It is hard to get that message across to someone if it is never the same if someone comes back. Others may disagree but I am just giving my opinion

If you just want a blog, then do that. If you're trying to build a site with a specific presence, then you should have a static home page with other significant pages in the menu. Depends on what you're after. A blog is difficult to monetize.

Cheers WKnoepp for your input...it has been suggested by another WA member to make my first post a sticky so it always stays on the front page, with the other blog posts rolling on...think this is an excellent idea :)

Sure.

Hi there,

it depends how you want to design your website. Many have a blog roll as their landing page (homepage). A blog roll shows your blog posts in a certain order, typically the latest first.

Others like a static homepage. This usually includes a welcome and some sort of navigation on what visitors can find on your website. From a section showing latest posts to a section showing "Click here to see training", etc.

A static homepage is not often changed and while many choose this way, they put their blog roll on a secondary page, usually accessable in the navigation menu.

Search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo like activity on a regular basis and the best way to provide this is to write blog posts instead of pages.

This doesn't mean your homepage shouldn't have any pages. Of course it needs them. Your "About Me" for example should be a page. Any other so called "Evergreen Content" should be on pages.

If you write a review or any other articles based on keyword research, this would be better as a post instead of a page. Posts and so called blog rolls rank quicker than pages. Yes, they rank too but it takes much longer for a page to get ranked.

While a blog roll is important for quicker rankings, it doesn't matter if it's your landing page or a navigation button in your menu. Search engines will find it as long as you have one on your website.

For a better understanding, I found some trainings from fellow WA members.

1) 2) 3) I hope this helps to make a decision. :)

All the best,
Nicole

Thank you so much Nicole for your extremely informative response.
You have helped me tremendously !!! :)

You're most welcome and I'm very happy to hear that I could help you out. :)
