YouTube Update on Shorts
Shorts Creators!
YouTube is excited to share an important update about how views on YouTube Shorts will be counted, so they created an announcement. Starting March 31, 2025, YouTube will be changing how it tracks and reports Shorts views to give you a better understanding of your content’s performance across platforms. What’s Changing?
- New View Counting: From now on, every time a Short begins to play or replay, it will count as a view—no minimum watch time required.
- Engaged Views: The original Shorts view metric (based on watch time) will still be available under YouTube Analytics > Advanced Mode, renamed as “engaged views.”
- How Does This Impact You?
- Insights: Expect higher views on your Shorts as this change reflects total visibility, making it easier to measure reach and engagement.
- Monetization: No changes here! Earnings and YouTube Partner Program eligibility will still be based on engaged views.
- Cross-Platform Performance: This update lets you better track your Shorts' performance across multiple platforms and share metrics that showcase your reach to brands or agencies.
- What’s Next? Stay tuned as YouTube continues to evolve to improve for both you and its users!
You’ll start seeing the updated metrics applied across YouTube from March 31, 2025, in all areas that display Shorts views.
They are hopeful this update will help you refine your strategies, provide deeper insights into your audience, and represent your content’s impact more effectively. Read their announcement here.
