Chrome's Accessibility Settings: Live Caption and Live Translate Features
Aha, earlier, I made a discovery: I see a lot of folks asking if they can hear the webinars in their language. Well, now you can.
Open Chrome: Launch the Chrome browser on your computer.
Go to Settings:
Click on the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of Chrome.
Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
Access Accessibility Settings:
In the Settings menu, type "Accessibility" in the search bar at the top to quickly locate the section.
Click on Accessibility under the search results.
Enable Live Caption:
In the Accessibility section, locate Live Caption.
Toggle Live Caption to "On" to enable automatic captions for supported audio and video content.
Enable Live Translation (if available):
Once Live Caption is enabled, you should see an option for Live Translate (which may vary depending on your region or Chrome version).
When you start to play a video, a prompt icon will appear next to the Omnibox (the bar where you input a URL in Google Chrome). Here, you can control your music, videos, and more.
Play Video Content:
When you play supported audio or video content, captions automatically appear in the chosen language translation.
This setup lets you directly view real-time translated captions for supported audio and video within Chrome.
The settings shown allow for real-time translation of captions from English to other languages (in these cases, French and Spanish). Each screenshot includes a "Beer With Kyle" video from Wealthy Affiliate, with captions and translated text overlayed in the chosen language.
Toggle Live Translate to "On" and select your desired translation language from the dropdown menu (e.g., French, Spanish).
Screenshot 1: Shows Chrome's accessibility settings with Live Caption enabled, and Live Translate set to French, translating Kyle's discussion in the Wealthy Affiliate video.
Screenshot 2: Displays the "Beer With Kyle" video with Live Caption translating captions into Spanish.
Screenshot 3: Kyle describes Whistler Brewing Co., with Live Caption translating to French, adding context about his experience.
