Choosing The Right Niche

About six months ago I decided to create a new website. It took over a month to actually build as it was quite extensive. At the moment the posts are at 4600 to give you a clear idea of the size of this project

Now when I chose this particular niche I took a look around the web and quickly realized there was little to no competition. Of course the main reason I chose this niche was that it was a topic that at the time I found interesting. So it passed the first two criteria of choosing the right niche

A) I had enough interest to write extensively about the subject

B) Little to no competition when it came to this specific topic

Since the creation of the website it has received nearly 400,000 views strictly from SEO and to boot it is on a free website and I have not spent a single penny on it

The problem with this particular niche is there is no money to be made. I have Google Adsense set up on it but lets just say I am not buying any new cars. All of that work all of that traffic yet little to no income.

Let this be a warning to do your homework. If your goal is to create a money stream from one of your websites make sure to do your homework first

Terry, what exactly do you mean by no money to be made? Is there nothing for you to be an affiliate of? That is something that I am weary of about my chosen niche, which is why I haven't spent any money on a domain or anything like that. As you said, I am still doing my homework on my niche, because I want to make sure my niche is actually something that will be profitable.

The problem is the content really does not match up with a consumer product. Maybe books from Amazon but in the past that did poorly. As I mentioned, at the time it was an interest of mine that I wanted to explore. I thought Adsense would be a good choice but again the content does not meet up with most of the advertisers intentions. Now when I am researching a Niche I make sure to check the available of products out there that can be tied to and how Adsense is paying for certain keywords

Ahh, that sounds similar to the niche I have been thinking about. Not a lot of competition out there, a lot of interest on my part, a lot of things to make content about, but not a lot that comes to mind when I think of products to sell.

I also thought about books from amazon, but that was really all I could think of that would be directly related to my niche. Anything else would not necessarily fall in line with what I want to talk about, so that complicates things in terms of profitability. That's why I am not going full throttle with my chosen niche yet, I want to do as much research as possible before diving in.

interest/competition is the prime equation!

A hard lesson Terry however on the positive side you know how to build a site that gets traffic, now you just need to do that in a niche that can pay you. Mark

Thanks for sharing.

Sorry to hear. I'm sure there is some money to be made.
I'm curious. Can you PM me your site?
