Indexed and Ranked #1 on Google for Long-tail Keyword. Use Tags, Believe WA. Lasso Again.
Image is of happy cats and dogs, like me :)
Indexed in Google and #1I just got an email from WA that my newish senior survival website, Golden Survivalist, got indexed in Google and is number 1 for the long-tail keyword. The URL is goldensurvivalist.com/tag/tech-gadgets-for-senior-survival-prepping/. As was recommended by the WA email, I used Jaxxy to check it out and for tracking. It was published 7/7/24 and indexed 8/12/24. Pretty awesome.
The URL is number 6 in Yahoo for the long-tail keyword Essential Items For A Senior-Friendly Emergency Kit β a different post!
Use of TagsCats and Tags = categories and Tags. Categories are used for broad grouping of post topics while Tags are generally used to describe your post in more detail.
They help the SEO and are just good basic design. These settings are very helpful in setting up the structure of your post. While some Tags may be the same as your SEO βkeywords,β Tags are for organizational purposes.
Notice in the URL above that it uses the tag I defined in the search. If any of you think that Tags arenβt useful, you see that they are!
What is so cool about this post being indexed and number 1 is that it has affiliate links that are set up in my Lasso plugin, so it can be tracked via Lasso, too.
Using the same Tags in other posts gives that post a better chance of ranking since it already did with the original post.
Believe the WA TrainingBelieve WA training that it can happen to your site, too. One of the areas that has been kinda fuzzy to me is all the keyword types, especially the long-tail keyword.
I didnβt have a shorter title for this post and I needed the word βSeniorβ in it to push that keyword to the βinterverseβ. What seems to make this work is the addition of most of the URL title in my Tags, plus some shorter versions. Now I see how it works!
I have been waiting to see some kind of good analytics on my new sites. Since being a member of WA, I have had a few physical setbacks, with a broken arm last year and breast cancer this year. So, I havenβt been able to work as consistently as Iβd like.
This Google ranking has got me inspired even more π
for figuringIβm slowly adding affiliate links using the Lasso plugin. It helps with Google ranking - you add your Google ID when you set it up. I really like the review-type format that it displays.
I was sold on it because it is easy to change your Amazon ID if you need to create a new one if you donβt meet Amazonβs 180-day purchase requirement. Iβve done this twice now.
So, I bit the bullet and purchased a 3-site license to see how well it works. Its organization is great for figuring out stuff, too.
Yes, itβs priceyβ¦
Who else has used Lasso or other plugins that work well for you? How about using Tags or Categories? Iβve read that some people here have wondered about using Tags. Does this encourage you, too?

Good job, Teri!
I have had other WA users also recommend tags, so I have always thought, why not?
Thanks, Howard!
I've been using Tags since I started in 2000. I read a Wordpress thing touting them :)

I hate the way that the post gets changed on WA blog from what I actually put in. It loses my headings or changes them. I see something different than what gets posted, grrrr...
Formating needs to be addressed in WA blog posts.
I thought the URL wasn't going to be a link. I need to be more careful with that...
Have a great weekend, Frank!
It's beautiful here. It's dryish for Florida and just 89-90 instead of 99-100 with heat indexes being more than that.
It was nice to mow and lie in the pool.

Hi Terri, great job! π π. I don't use tags. I am not sure how it helps. I tried it before. I didn't notice the difference. I would need to check that one out.
No, I don't use Lasso; I can't afford it. π₯
Instead I use the free version of Prettylinks.
I am saving for my upcoming Plus membership in November, so I need to be careful with my budget. I did invest in a year plan less than $50 a year (affordable) for video editing software. I can get started on YouTube, as the software features include AI voiceovers and closed captioning, which will be helpful for me and other people. π
Hi Brenda,
Thanks for the compliment!
Tags are beneficial for SEO.
I need to get into the video thing, too, for YouTube. I'm just not there yet.
Teri
Hi Brenda
If a website is getting sufficient traffic, then tags can show up in the SERPS. Think of them as a more specific category.
For example, if my category is Amplifiers, Marshall Amplfiers can be a tag under that category.
So, if a guitar player is looking for a Marshall amplifier and that person clicks on:
my-website-url_dot com/tag/marshall-amplifiers
in the SERPS, a page on my website called Marshall Amplifiers will be displayed with all the posts I have on various Marshall amplifiers: informational posts, roundup reviews, and individual product reviews.
It can be useful when a searcher is interested in something more specific under a product category, in this case, Marshall amps. So, tags can be beneficial without using Lasso. π

I don't use Lasso for Tags, Frank.
I just use it for a review-type affiliate link. Lasso doesn't care about Tags :)
Teri
Yes, I agree, Teri.
I was just trying to make a point that tags can be useful without using the Lasso plugin. They are simply WordPress organizers that can be set up in an SEO plugin to be indexed and ranked or not.π
Happy Saturday!

You should keep the Tags to about 3, Brenda :)
I have read that, too. I recently tried using part of the title as a long-tail keyword, and I was impressed that it worked so well.
I'm still fuzzy on how that works...

Great job on indexing and especially on ranking!
Never heard of Lasso until I read about it in your article. I may check it out at some point but struggling financially right now, so I need to really watch where I spend.
Thanks for sharing.
Karin
Hi Karin!
Thanks much!
