A diagnosis . and an opportunity?

Last Update: March 12, 2017

This week I got a diagnosis ... not a really bad one but a lifelong underlying illness which has no cure. It is an autoimmune disorder and I have had it (without symptoms) for a very long time. However, it has had an impact on my heath.

So, how did I respond to this?

Tears? Gnashing of teeth? Dread?

No! None of that at all ....

I simply thought - great ... fantastic ..... that is a niche that I can really get to grips with and become an expert!

It suprised me that this devastating news had given me such a positive feeling.

I guess I am thinking like a weathy affiliate!

Hi Gillian,
Yes, I can relate 100% to your posting. A few years ago I was diagnosed with diabetes 2. The news absolutely devastated me and I saw it as a death sentence. The medication/diet I was given was all based on an old and outdated concept(Scary Stuff). My situation worsened and I became very depressed.
Enter the internet as well as my research and to make a long story short from then onwards my health started to improve slowly but surely.
It turns out that our modern Western diet and gentile lifestyle is highly detrimental to our health situation. Modern food is produced for shelf life/profit and not necessary for nutrition. Modern day medication only addresses the symptoms and not the causes. Although medication does have its place in the world.
I opted for a (HFLC) diet (Healthy Fat Low Carb) diet with plenty of exercises to go with it.
My health and life have drastically changed for the better I'm happy to say.

Yes, indeed this is such a wonderful opportunity and also an obligation to our fellow humans out there and to inform the world.
Take care.

Johan.

Thanks, Johan. Just what I was thinking. I need to help the thousand of others who have this to make the best of the situation but I need to do my research first.

Gillian,

A good place to start will be with well known South African Sports nutritionist. Prof.Tim Noakes - who goes into detail about the HFLC diet. He is a Prof. at the University Of Cape Town.
Just Google his name and you should be on the right track and let me know how you go?

Take care,

Johan.

What a great way to share your experience, by taking a negative thing and turning it into a very positive thing. I truly hope that journey turns out well for you.

Wow, way to go, Gillian such a great idea! you would have been doing the research anyway so why not build out from it.

You will be helping others who have just arrived where you are now but do not have the WA skill set that you have worked so hard to achieve!

Exactly, I will definitely be researching like mad because I have the incentive. Hopefully I can help others too.
