A very basic understanding of niches and keywords
I peek into the live chat often (but normally stray to work on training or try to do some work relating to my sites), but many times I see people new to WA (and yes, I'm a newbie, too) asking about niches and keywords.
In most instances, those asking are confused by what they are or how they are intermingled.
So, from my perspective, this is how I look at them...
A niche is the theme or topic which you choose to write about (keeping in mind you want a narrow enough niche to generate a lot of traffic, but not so narrow that no one is searching). For instance, sports statistics would be very vague (are you referring to football, hockey, baseball, cricket?) so you would want to narrow it down (perhaps World Cup Soccer statistics). You could break it down even further and add that they are statistics for a certain year or decade.
Keywords are the words you would associate with your theme/topic. They can be individual words or they can be phrases. But as long as you have an "image" whenever you hear those words, that's a good way to determine if they are relevant to your niche.
This is how I differentiate between the two words. Am I on track? Or is there another way I should be looking at it?

Thanks. I look at the two this way, but others might view it different.
I just know I see a lot of people ask what the difference is and some have even commented why do I need a niche if I already know what I'm planning to write about. Then might comment they don't understand why they need keywords.
It's in the training, but there's a disconnect for some. Or they may not have gotten into the training yet.
