If I want to delete my website and start over with a different niche, do I still need to pay for the domain or will I get refunded?
Hi Tasha, domain names are purchased from providers on a minimum yearly basis, as such, there is no refund if we decide to abandon them.
I would suggest that you ensure that you check the status of the domain a lot of providers will put it on auto-renew by default, just a matter of going into settings and turning it off. the domain will just return to the public domain when it expires.
Just a thought have you thought about trying to sell it if you abandon it, you lose your investment if you sell you may be surprised, there may be some change after purchasing your new domain name.
If you are hosting here in WA perhaps leave the deletion for a little while sometimes we can come back around to something, so if you have sites spare it will do no harm letting it sit.
If you do delete and there is content a good plugin to back it up just in case is
https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-wp-migration/
Updated regularly, free and easy to use.
Best wishes for that new site
Hi Tasha,
Just to add that the website and domain are two separate items. Once a domain name is registered, there are no refunds and no modifications. If you don't want your current domain, you just have to abandon it, cancel it so you don't get billed again as @MikaiIM mentioned
That does depend on the domain provider. I have had refunds in the past but nearly always because I have made a typo in the domain name and it's obvious. As you say abandoning a niche is abandoning the domain name.

The other choice that you have Tasha is to complete the website or work on it further and sell it on Flippa.com
