Google AdSense - How something that has potential is so mediocre.
Google rejected my application for AdSense program.
Am I mad or angry - well, at first surprised.
The world didn't fall.
Their response was - "low amount of content".
Yeah right...as if. Have seen plenty of other websites with even not half the content I have, not even being listed on 2nd page in Google and yet they got into the program with a flick of their fingers.
But - that particular thing, made think for a moment and made me try to figure something out.
I lurked a bit about AdSense myself in hope to find either a solution, replacement or knowledge regarding that matter. Trying to learn bit more about it's system and how it works inside.
Pretty much, AdSense is a good thing to have around - getting even couple of dollars a month is still something!
But if your other affiliates pay off - skip AdSense.
Problem with AdSense is that it's promoting stuff in ads which often don't go in pair with your niche - even if doesn't land in the superior category of your niche.
Another problem is it's mechanic - you click, it doesn't open the link in new tab/window, but makes your viewer leave your site to another - and it's a really bad thing in my personal opinion.
Why is that?
Because we want our viewers to stay on our site no matter what. Our goal is to make viewers who are potential customers to stay on our website, and go page after page, read content which we did sweat about when creating it.
The longer our viewer stays on our website, the higher is the chance he'll pick something up, click in the affiliate link and purchase it.
AdSense in that comparison, butchers that chance.
It also creates an opportunity, where our viewer won't comeback to our website - and that's definitely what we do not want.
What's more, AdSense makes our website ugly honestly, and more and more people tend to use AdBlock plugins in their browsers.
What I suggest - promote products with Affiliate links and have full control over them.
Thanks to that, our website stays clean, beautiful, easy to read, there are no random things we don't know about to jump out.
We're promoting products we're certain of their reliability - customer's trust is priority.
We can also create our own description for those Ads, which can be more catchy, look more reliable and trustworthy.
Summary
As mentioned previously, Adsense isn't a bad thing. Google is affiliated with hundreds of thousands other affiliates.
Pros for sure is maybe bit better positioning, little cash for beginning.
But in my personal opinion, cons overwhelm the pros.
Ugly website, ads which aren't even close to your niche and what's more, possibility of our viewers to leave our website, even permanently.
There are so many SEO methods to boost our ranking effectively without having AdSense ads on our website.
This is my personal opinion about AdSense by years of experience with it on thousands of other websites.
To bad that something that has a great potential is so mediocre.
Because how much work would it take, to make sure that AdSense ads on our websites not only match but also spread onto other categories of our niche?
Constructive feedback is always welcome. :)
Best regards
Michael
