Organizing My Ideas

If I have an idea for a blog post I write it in a book. Its hard to keep everything organized and I ended up with a pile of books full of ideas. Some are well thought out ideas and some are just catchy titles. The pile of ideas was getting discouraging because I couldn't organize them to write anything.

In University, I used the library study rooms that had whiteboards in them. Standing up and getting all my ideas organized on the whiteboard worked very well. I thought I could go back to the school and use a room there. The school won't give me a price on a small room for a day without giving them a lot of information. The City Library just transferred me from person to person and no one knew anything. I tried the hotels because they often have conference rooms. I was quoted $500 for a day. So no.

There is whiteboard paint available at Home Depot. It is expensive and the can is small. I didn't want to paint one of my walls because I hope to rent my house out in a few months. When I find my forever home all the walls will be whiteboard. In frustration I YouTubed it and saw someone paint a 4x8 sheet of hardboard with whiteboard paint. That's it!

At Home Depot I got the hardboard, whiteboard paint, roller, mirror clips, and a chocolate bar. The paint has to be mixed and only works for 2 hours. It dries fast so you can get 4 coats on if you want. The paint doesn't cover anything very well but the hardboard was white so I thought it only needed 2 coats. Three would have been better

The whiteboard project worked wonderfully well. Hanging it up on the wall was the biggest challenge. I could have used some help with that. The old dry erase markers didn't erase as well as newer but Staples had a new package with a lot of colors in them. I like colors.

The mistakes I made in this project are easy to correct. The whiteboard should have been sanded first and it has a big scratch in one side that didn't cover well. At some point in the future my whiteboard has to be sanded with 400 grit paper and repainted to make it nicer. It does work as is. The books of ideas are getting organized.

There was some paint left over so I tried a small square on the drywall. It worked better than the hardboard but still should have been sanded first. Of course this is not portable and the hardboard is. It does make a nice little whiteboard to make notes on or a grocery list.

Now I am able to take all my ideas out of the books and onto the whiteboard. They can start to develop into blog posts. It makes the writing process easier for me and I finally have some hope that I will catch up on the writing and make some real progress on my projects.

Obviously you are a very visual person. K&C have provided us with a great content creation feature on our SiteRubix portal (SiteContent), but it doesn't provide the 'visual' effect that a WoWo board does.

I start my idea collection on Notepad. Then I go from Notepad to SiteContent. It works pretty good. But I have realized that there comes a point in the process where we need to stop the idea collection, and just write. Produce something ... post it and move on.

I have always been a bit of a perfectionist and this is not good when it comes to just establishing that steady stream of content. I've come to realize it's the key habit that we all need to acquire.

You are so right about sitting down and writing. I have not been able to sit and write much yet. But I still have ideas all the time so I write them in notebooks, use apps, and even a voice recorder. So far I have 3 books, 4 websites, and six social media pages started. I will eventually bring it all together but for now I need to finish the WA course.

Cool! I did not know there was whiteboard paint.

I should do a product review for it and sell it! lol
There is also chalkboard paint. I tried the spray chalkboard in my garage and it didn't work very well. The stuff in the can is better and it comes in several colors.

I don't know what your niche is but a product review makes sense. I am sure that paint is available on Amazon if you are an affiliate.
