Changing Lives in Kenya

Living in a mud hut in a remote village in Kenya.

My amazing year with Linda and six other children was life changing for me.

Even as an eight year old girl Linda was an excellent mother to the six other children.

Five days a week Linda would be awake at the crack of dawn.

She would fetch water in a bucket from the well, carrying it on her head.

Fetching water from the well

Then she would light the Jiko, (a small pitcher stove} which held charcoal.

Pouring water in a small pot, known as a sufria she would start to boil the water ready to make the tea for breakfast for all the children.

Most of the time the children would have black tea for breakfast and maybe some rice left over from the night before.

We would then start to wake the children and get them dressed and ready for school.

School started at seven o’clock in the morning and the children had to walk a long distance to get there.

Many of the children in this area didn’t attend school because of the distance.

As a result of this we decided that we needed a school of our own.

Our first school in Buche villa

So, we made plans to start raising funds to begin building a church which would also be used as a school building.

While we were waiting for our own building we used a local church building and started to enroll children who were aged between four and eight years of age.

Within a short time we had managed to buy land and build a church building which we were able to use as a school.

We had about 100 children divided into three classes with three voluntary teachers.

The school closed down soon after I left but has opened again this year.

We have new teachers and a fresh group of children.

Transforming Lives

We were able to change the lives of many children and their families as we helped to bring education to this remote village in Kenya.

Discovering that before we came to the village the death rate for babies and young children was very high, we purchased medical supplies and water purifier.

Enabling us to treat the many cases of malaria and stomach issues caused by polluted water.

Our Dream

Our dream is to build a permanent brick school for nursery, primary and high school students.

Plans to establish a clinic in this area are also being discussed.

Interesting post -- suggest it may be more better suited for your niche website ... all the best .... :)

Hi there, I did post it to my website as well. Still learning all this website stuff.
Sylvia

... well -- suggest a wee bit of care regarding 'duplicate content' on the net ... WA blogs are live on the internet .... same as websites so if the same text has been posted twice, the search engines will catch this and may cause a ban on your site -- you may want to either change the text on one or actually remove it to save yourself some grief ...

... otherwise, your writing is engaging and wonderful with an audience so keep moving onward & upward to success! ...

keep well, keep happy, all the best, cheerio ... ⭐️
