Why Lead Magnets?
What is a lead magnet?
As the word suggests, a lead magnet is something that attracts something else in the direction you want. And if you're familiar with business terms- you probably are- then you've heard of it before, and perhaps you know why we use it.
Actually, a lead magnet is kind of a gift. Something you give for free. But some may think it's not worth their time; they have more important business to attend to.
However, from my experience before I came to WA, I learned that a lead magnet should be number one on your list of your business plan.
Why?
We all rush to build a website and fill it with content. We want traffic, so we go for ads and we get active on social media and we drop links to our website whenever we get the opportunity. Traffic comes. People take a look, read posts, comment, and boom! They are gone. You pay for more ads and try again to attract people in any way possible.
However, the problem is, people pass by your website like they do a station and you can't expect them to dwell more than a few minutes or hours.
But the good news is, there's a solution to this. An email list. How does this work?
You need those people who visit your website to become permanent visitors or customers, not just passerby's. So you get them to subscribe to your mailing list. They provide their name and email address. And now you can keep them updated. And if they're interested enough, they'll keep coming back for more.
But how do you get them to subscribe? People are usually protective of their emails. They don't let anyone get into their inbox if they don't trust them.
And here comes the role of Lead Magnets!
You offer a free gift for anyone who subscribes. You don't directly state this. Instead, you advertise this free bonus so that the visitor is intrigued to get it. As a result, that person will do anything to receive the free gift, so they write their email and thus subscribe. The gift immediately reaches their inbox. Happy ending!
Wait! That's not the ending yet!
What could I offer as a lead magnet?
There are many things you can think of. Be creative and think for a few days. Jot down some ideas and vote for the best one.
I can give you some examples of lead magnets that I've seen others offer.
article - PDF - eBook - free course - free book in print - a checklist - a short guide - video - audio - images - a free service
These are some ideas that you can choose from, but that's not everything. There are countless more ideas you can get in your specific niche that another niche can't provide. Just be creative and look at what others are doing.
Once you choose the format of your lead magnet, it's time to build the content or prepare it.
Beware! If you build it wrong, it'll break your business.
Three things to keep in mind!
Be Honest:
Your audience is smart! If you use your lead magnet to trick them to subscribe, they will know it and thus you break their trust. If you promise them something, don't give less. If they're disappointed, they'll unsubscribe and your efforts will go down the drain.
Provide Quality:
A part of building trust is by providing quality content or service. Your gift should add something unique to their knowledge, or help them in one way or another. If your lead magnet is to entertain, you can't provide some boring stuff. This means you should take your time in building your lead magnet and put a lot of effort in making it worthy of your subscriber.
Make It Unique:
The internet is the go to for everyone and billions of sites provide information on anything a person can think of. And that's a challenge. You need to offer something that your subscriber can't find anywhere else. Something really unique that she would be thankful to have subscribed. Get your creative juices flowing, sit down and create. Add your own touch. No one else can say what you want to say in the same way as you.
Then What?
You have a list of subscribers, and the list keeps growing. Congratulations!!
Now, send them emails often. Don't make them wait, and don't exhaust their inbox. (You don't want to become a spam.) Get them to know you better. Keep them updated. And above all, never break their trust! They are very precious because without them, you can't have a business.
I wish you the best,
Sylvia
(P.S. As a starter, I can't comment in chats. I only have two days as a bonus and after that, I won't be able to comment anymore. Sorry. But you can still comment and ask questions. Someone will still answer you.)
