Biggest petpeeve
I have never been able to understand why people do not follow through in what they say they are going to do, or do not show up on time for appointments. Coming from Corporate America part of being successful was always embedded in my heard that if you are on time, you're late. I thank god, I always had the work ethic at a very young age to be on time for pretty much anything. When I became a business owner, and I was interviewing potential employees, I made it clear that punctuality was definitely important.
As an entrepaneur, I work from home quite a bit, and we have had to do work around the house lately which required workers coming to the house.
First the air conditioning went out, had workers out here, they advised it would only take 2 days. First day they did not show up not even a courtesy call. The second day, they were 3 hrs late. The last day, they showed up late, took a 2 hr lunch, and left at 7pm!
Then came the repiping under the house which was a lengthy job, and took 7 days, mind you the guy had said he would never leave us without water on any given day. WRONG. we were 4 days with no water! You don't want to know how I handled that one. He didn't show up for 2 days straight with no calls to explain why. He eventually finished and at the end he asked for extra money because it took longer. I said ARE YOU KIDDING ME? You are not getting any extra money, not only have we been inconvenienced due to your unprofessionalism, but we should cut the amount due to you for the inconvenience to us.
Finally he finished, with a 500.00 reduction in the bill. I am sure he thought the man of the house would be handling this situation, but he was mistaken, I took care of it. Needless to say, I will not be referring him to any jobs at all.
Lastly, we hired a guy to come and redo a few walls from when the repiping was done, and there had been holes made in the walls, so we needed someone to come in and redo the walls. He came gave us the estimate, requested money for the supplies, we paid him, even gave him a little more, said he would be back Sat. morning at 10am to begin the work. He never showed up! Today he had not called, just showed up and it is 6:30pm!!
He acted like nothing was wrong. The problem, I will not let anyone in the house alone while we are not home, so we needed the project done over the weekend. He wants to finish Mon and Tues. I said HELL NO. at this point I am livid. I explained, if you would have been on time to start the work, you would be finished by now, so be gone, and you better be back here on Friday and do the work ON TIME!
Now I know for those of you who are reading this must think I am crazy, but guess what gets me there???? PEOPE WHO ARE LATE, HAVE NO RESPECT FOR OTHERS, AND WORK ON THEIR TIME...
So Sorry guys, but I needed to vent!!!! Word to the wise, if you're ever meeting me for a meeting, dinner, lunch whatever, YOU BETTER BE ON TIME...
lol

Hello Sylvia
hear you and been there. Lived in Vietnam for many years and people expect you to adjust to the problem when they are not getting into gear to fixing it just dragging it out for extra bucks.
Here in Singapore, you have to adjust to People being late. Always more or less 30 Minutes. You say 3 pm it means 3.30 pm or later lah... no worries lah....
Take it from the funny side, it makes a good story when you start writing your life story as a bestseller.
Cheers Sylvia
Good Morning Sylvia,
I can understand you blow your top, it is just too much of these type of men at once.
Be happy you do not live in the south of Spain, where it used to be even worse.Nowadays it is getting better trying to reach European standard, still, it is not perfect yet.
Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske
Lol
I hear yeah
But if we ever are to meet
12 means 2
2 means 4
And so on
I'd hate to be late
Just teasing.
Hoping the vent has put you in a better mood
Cheers

I can relate. Love Mexico. Have spent time in Merida and Progresso a few times over the years. Rented properties. Only ever stayed in a hotel once. That was to explore Xel Ha. Amazing culture and people.
Have a great night

We had pretty close to the same situation when we needed a new roof and gutters. We really believed that that should not include a broken ceiling right inside the front door and the 2.5-week delay in getting that squared away OR the theft of a hundred foot extension cord, but, hey, pet peeves come in all sizes don't they?
Whooa Baby!!!!! I always want to stay on your good side Sylvia, and definitely BE ON TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you get the work finished soon and get back to your normal routine.
