I created a favicon (.icos format) through htmlkit.com. It generated some code and told me to upload two icos files (one is animated) to my web site and insert add the HTML tag

There could be a plugin for this - simply do a search in Google to find one.

If not the easiest way to add a favacon if your theme does not have the feature in the dashboard to do so to do it by FTP.

1) Login through FTP
2) Open public_html
3) Find your site name and open that file
4) Open wp-content file
5) Open themes file
6) Open the theme file
7) Open image file

If there is already a favicon icon in your image file right click on it and delete it. This is usually the favicon that comes with the theme. You have to delete any favicon icon file that is there as you cannot have 2 of the same file.

Now find your favicon.ico file on your computer and transfer it to your themes image file. And your done.

Give it time it can take a while before your new favicon shows.

Hope that helps

In the next day or so I will make a training video showing the steps so other WA members can see how it's done.

Hello Leo, thanks so much for a very helpful reply. As I said in my edited question, I probably shouldn't have been so quick to ask this question. I did a search for plugins and found one called Favicon by RealFaviconGenerator. I had my Favicon up and running in about 5 minutes. What I like about this plugin is that it supposedly takes the different platforms, e.g. iOS, Android into account and automatically modifies the icon for each platform.

Don't you love when people ask for help and then do something different than what you suggest? ;) Your reply is not wasted though - I have another website that's not WordPress that I need to create a favicon for.

Thanks again Leo!

No worries I'm glad you got things sorted - I think I will still do the training video just so people can see how it is done.

I am not a big fan of plugins and I try and use as few as possible - less things to cause issues with a website.

Yeah, I was thinking about that, too. I might just go with the plugin for now and then do it your way when I got time. Thanks!

This is a video I am definitely looking forward to.

Me too, Steve. Oh yeahhhh, the pressure is on now! ;)

I was wondering which one of these to SEO plug-ins you guys recommend and why?

I was using the All-in One Seo and today I was introduced to Yoast - I love it ! They give you run down of the keywords used and at least tell you where you are lacking - made me realised my SEO was really bad!

Hello,

I started with All in One originally as per the training however about 3 months ago there was some security issue with it that led me to check the Yoast option.

I have gone with Yoast and have not looked back, I particularly like the feature when you are writing articles and it gives you pointers of the stuff you have not set up correctly for SEO.

Please bear in mind that if you go with Yoast you need to use 2 of their plugins for the same function as All in One however I still favour Yoast over All in One.

Wow, I had made up my mind to go with SEO All-In-One, but you seriously made me rethink that. The article writing SEO feedback tool you describe sounds very useful. I'll definitely give Yoast a closer look before I make up my mind. The two plugins you describe are the two links above right? If that's the case, then it means that there's a separate page for Google Analytics. I see they have a paid option, are you using the free version?

Oh, and thanks, Jonicas, your reply to my question was very useful!

Hello,

At this stage of championship I can only afford free however I can tell you that the article writing tips have helped me to get my pages ranked in Google, BING and Yahoo

Great, thanks!

the course lesson here at WA taught by Kyle uses the All in one SEO...there has never been any mentions of yoast. So, I just go with what I am taught. Kyle seems to know what he is doing.

Thanks BlairdC, that was actually part of my question, but I wanted to keep it short and sweet.. If there is video training on All In One SEO in the WA training section. that's a good argument for going with that plug-in. I haven't gotten that far in the training yet, but this is for a site I'm managing for my spouse. Thanks!

I started using the Yoast SEO product a couple of days ago after using the all in one previously. Yoast is the easiest to use, and particularly good for newbies, I now feel more confident with my SEO using Yoast

Thanks, Rawiri. I heard good things about Yoast, someone I know recommended it to me.

Heres a link to Jeremy's post on Yoast, hope you find it helpful

Somehow I missed this link yesterday. Thanks, Rawiri!
