Finding a balance

Hi everyone,

I have always been the type of person who works obsessively once I am focused on a project. The illness that caused me to lose my job forced me to be much more aware of how that determination can go awry if left unchecked.

Starting a new site has been an exciting and inspiring process for me, but with so much to do I find myself slipping into old habits of not making enough time in the day to take care of myself. I am curious as to what everyone does to find that balance between building a site from the ground up and taking care of yourself? I have worked the last two nights from 8unam til 5am the next day with a few breaks squeezed in and I need to stop myself from falling back into bad habits.

My latest attempt to counteract this has been to set the alarm on my phone for 10 minutes til every hour and give my self a short break when it goes off so that I am forced to make sure I take a breather. I also have one hour in the morning that I have set aside for exercise.

What do you to do keep yourself sane? What are your secrets to life work balance?

Your post is so apt! I, too, have to work at finding balance. I have a Day-Timer, and that helps. I schedule all the things I need to get done in a day and look at the book now and then to make sure I am on track. It is my order to myself that makes me stop WA now and then and get some other things done. That list helps, because I can see my progress, and it helps break up my day.

That is a good point. If I give myself a few tasks a day that I can complete in a realistic time frame and then put it down that might help limit my drive to go endlessly and you still see you have accomplished something that day. Thanks for your thoughts, I am sure there are a number of folks struggling with this on different levels.

I know exactly what you are talking about and oftenly find myself doing the same. I have a thin line between my formal job, my online business and my life. I will be glad to hear how people balance that too.

I have just found myself at a point in my life where I have to find a way to make this work, without killing myself to get it done. When I lost my job unexpectedly due to my health issues, it was caused by what I described above. I lost my career at 38, and I was the main source of income and insurance for our family.

I don't need to make what I was making before, but I need to find a steady income to pay my mortgage. I have no idea how I am going to make insurance work., but I feel that pressure all the time. My husband worries about me finding a balance that won't kill me all the time.

I know the stress I put on myself is terrible for me and my overall health, but I don't know how keep myself from going down this path again.. I hate to feel like I am failing behind, but there is so much to do and once my disability payments are gone from everything I am still going through, I won't have the time I have now, because I will probably have to find a low wage job to help supplement what our life. That is why I feel pulled to make every free moment I have count.

Any tips I can gather from how others manage this would be extremely helpful at this point.

Balance is key to good health & vitality ... we can all go the distance if need be (flight - fright response) and of course, this is quite short-term .... going the long distance route takes time, patience with oneself above all else... keep well and thanks kindly for sharing ... all the best for every success :)
