2018. A Year Of Reflection

2018 started out with high hopes for most people. Here at WA business went on as usual. But 2018 also brought with it some tragedies that left many of us shaking our head and left us wondering what life really is all about. Is it money? Is it popularity or just peace of mind. In my old mind at 55 I have come to realize that it's really all about family and those we give our hearts to.

In 2005 when I was diagnosed with menengitis and left with some cognitive issues I really started thinking about what my life meant and what is it all about in the end. As I write this I have a wonderful life. Three cars, a nice house, a beautiful son of 16 years old but also a sense of sadness as I read the going on's of the world. The hate, the racism, the poverty and the struggle of life that affects so many. Since being in the hospital, I have become an empath although it's hard for me to deal with on so many levels.

Fifteen years ago I was an ego driven electrician, working like a dog on job sites in California and working towards that American dream. It wasn't always like that. I have been homeless, had suicides in the family and dealt with my own depression because of situations I had found myself in one too many times.

Recently in the news as you may have heard about a man killed his entire family for reasons that really don't make any sense. This person had everything materialistically anyone could want but it wasn't enough for him. He thought the grass was greener on the other side and in the end his story taught us the fragility of life and consequences of our actions.

How do I relate this to Wealthy Affiliate? We live in a world of instant gratificaton. We want our Starbucks and we want it now. We want money and we want it now. We want to be heard. But, I have found that being humble and reflecting on what is important can bring you more joy than any amount of money or fame. We need to know who we are and to accept ourselves and others for what our strengths and weaknesses are. I have learned in my three years at Wealthy Affiliate what it is to have patience and to be dedicated and persistent. This doesn't mean you have to stop and do nothing. It means have a goal in life even if money is not involved. It means to be patient with yourself and others and to respect those who are trying to better their life. There is so much discord in our world right now and it only takes one act of kindness on each of our part to make the world a little bit brighter.

Try this if you dare. Help someone without expecting something in return. Search your heart and get to know yourself and stop judging not only yourself but others. You can apply this in your writing while you are working on your website or helping someone on this platform. You can do it at the grocery store by opening the door for someone. You can do it by being nice to your family who accepts you as you are and loves you unconditionally.

Here's to hoping 2019 will be a year many will stop the hate and turn to love and acceptance.
