JUNK BLOGGING for rank? Is it becoming kinda like SPAM?

Last Update: October 28, 2015

OK. I bit on the 90 DAY CHALLENGE because I found the following benefits:

  • I love a way to keep myself honest. (I already blog daily on my website to ensure I grow my content.)
  • I would love to see what other people do in a day, a month, 3 months. (I get new idea almost every time someone shares their system/work style and I read a TON of your blogs)
  • I got a grip on the blog volume myself by resetting my email settings so I wasn't thinking more sensitively about those who haven't. I only have 1400 followers but the blog numbers were already way too much for me. (However I still read blogs, everybody - I SWEAR PEOPLE! I just go to activity and read them without being forced to delete so many every day.)
  • 90 Days can sometimes pass with no FEELING of progress if you don't track it. (I think it's just a cool little idea to watch the time suck, which has absolutely been a challenge for me and I'm a seasoned "work at home" business person.)

(Here's my other blog about THE BLOGS!)

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/supportworx/blog/s...

HOWEVER, PERHAPS THE BLOGS AREN'T THE PLACE FOR THIS COOL LITTLE IDEA?

  • I think the 90 Day Blogs are pissing people off. Plain and simple.
  • Who wants that? That's the last thing I want to do. Is it seeming kind of like BLOG-SPAM to people?
  • I especially don't want to be seen as the blogger striving for any "Cheap Pop"... not here anyway LOL. It can really lower the respect some of the OG's might otherwise have for your contributions, and you as a business person.
  • And the top guys who continually blog REAL HELPFUL CONTENT here are super important. I value their opinion.
  • As Boomer said, I don't think any body appreciates "RANK SPANKING".
  • I would call it JUNK BLOGGING. It helps your rank because the ranking system doesn't know if you're talking about what came out of your chicken that day, or what came out of your website. BUT IT IS A LITTLE SILLY, AND OBVIOUS... and irritating. I can totally see that. (Of course, if I was still getting blog emails I would just be - again- deleting the ones I didn't need and the 90 day Challengers are really obvious.)

IT'S TAKEN ME 7 MONTHS TO GET MY 102 RANK - NO BIG DEAL - NO PREMATURE RUSH

  • Do I suck at speed? I don't care. I don't know if I really NEED to rank unless I REALLY deserve it. I don't think I want to get it "cheaply".
  • "POWER-RANKING" is obviously a bit of self-aggrandizement for shameless self-promotion. Especially at the rate of 3 blogs a day.
  • Why don't we just not inundate the system with random stuff to climb up in rank?
  • If we have that much time we could absolutely put it into our own websites, like Nathaniell said, THEN COME BACK HERE AND HAVE SOMETHING TO BLOG ABOUT!
  • When I came here I looked to the top 25 (AMBASSADORS) as people who:
    • Knew enough to help me.
    • Had time to help me.
    • Would be kind enough to help me

AND THEY DID HELP, IMMENSELY! EVERY TIME I ASKED, AND QUICKLY.

If the Ambasssadors were "POWER-RANKING" with "JUNK BLOGS" could they truly have been of so much help to me?

I doubt it.

The Challenge blogs are kind of junk. Let's face it. It's work related, but it's a bit of junk too, honestly. Like hanging around the water cooler just BSing about work while other people are grinding away nearby... it's kinda bothersome at the extreme.

Anyway, I'm backing away from the Challenge in terms of blogging. I may keep the checklist going on my own, and do an update somewhere down the line. But thanks to everyone who was so cool and supportive! If any of you want to do a private challenge with me just private message me and lets form a little group or something! I'm all about discipline and I'll help anyone in any way I can.

However, when you do back away, there is the chance that the person who needed to hear something in your blog, like me, who just read about the benefit of the evaluation of what we have gotten done- This is a part of the confidence building that I am just realizing.

I do not accomplish the goals as quickly as some, and that is O K- however as I do master or create, this fact may not receive the credit it should in my self evaluation. I for one like to hear the steps taken by fellow members to get to where we realize we have skills that are carrying us forward.
I thought the challenge stated blogging every 10 days -
However often, the time to evaluate accomplishment and see for yourself where you are is very important to me.
Thanks,
Sami

I think the challenge was offered with good intentions, however I agree that blogging every day with nothing to offer is not worthwhile.

Is there not a way we can set up the 90 Day Challenge as a discussion like other subjects? then only people who are following the discussion will be notified surely this would solve the problem for people who find this process helpful and those who don't wish to be inundated with updates about it,

Set goals not challenges. I believe realistic goal targets are easier to reach than setting yourself a daily target. For example, if you set yourself a challenge to write one new post for your site every day for the next 90 days, unless you are a professional writer I believe it's highly unlikely you will fulfill the challenge. What if you don't reach the challenge on a certain day? Have you failed the 90 day challenge?
Much better to break it down into, say, three monthly goals of thirty new posts per month. That way it gives you a breather, if you fail to write a new post on any one day you can still reach your goal within the month.
With regard to blogs I don't want to hear how somebody had a lovely at the seaside or enjoyed their friend's wedding, just to try and improve their WA rankings, if they can't write something directly related to WA or how to improve you site and presence on the web, don't bother.
Another one is members trying to improve their ranking with replies like: "I think XYZ has you covered," "XYZ has answered your question." If they don't have the answer to the question, why bother replying? They're only wasting their own and members time.
Then we have virtually the same answer to a question a number of times. I scroll down and if I find the question has been answered satisfactorily and I can't add anything to improve it, I mostly just give it a like.

Thanks for the long comment Harry. I see what you're saying. I set myself a challenge to do 180 posts in 180 days (some days more than 1 post a day, even) and so far I'm on day 66 and even though it's been brutal it was worth it to speed up my writing skills and SEO skills etc. I had become so frustrated with how slow I was at everything, I knew this would tune me up. Of course I may be dead before Day 180 HAHA.

I haven't seen the XYZ has you covered stuff, but I agree, if I SEE someone has it covered I don't need to say so. Oftentimes all I have time to do is to read the blog itself and without reading the comments I don't know what's there, so I just leave my comment as I see it, and it may be duplicate info, but I do always hit like, as you say, unless I really just don't like it, in which case I just leave with my yap shut.

This is just like a family at WA - including the bickering over blogs! One of the main reasons I joined WA a little more than a month ago was because I could immediately see the value of the community and I hope that never changes. Junk blogging or not - I don't care too much because I can just ignore what's irrelevant and there's still plenty of the good stuff.

Junk blogging for rank while rank spanking about blogging for rank while rank spanking.

Nice touch Alexx.

The 90 Day Challenge Day 3 was posted by You earlier today POW - It's all good my Friend, I blog about what I believe will help the Wealthy Affiliate Community.

I Love Wealthy Affiliate and wish that I'd have taken a look sooner. I have been earning an income online for quite some time and I found Wealthy Affiliate or it found me at a time when I had decided to start my own Social Media & Internet Marketing Company.

Great timing & I have been Blessed to help many Friends here on Wealthy Affiliate but also many Friends who aren't with WA earn and/or increase their online revenue.

After noticing the uproar about a simple Challenge I have since edited the post and asked that Friends only blog once every 10 days about their progress.

I truly hope and pray that we can all focus on helping one another grow our businesses in the WA Community.

Thank You Alexx and anyone else who takes the time to read this,

Tony

Hey Tony.. like I said in the very first line of the blog when I started explaining ALL THE REASONS I thought it was a good idea, I BIT! I like the idea! I just hadn't figured on it being a pain in everyone's butt, and I looked in my own backyard first and this is the blog I was personally involved with. There are PLENTY of other nonsense blogs that have NOTHING AT ALL to do with WA that I just am not going to speak of because everyone has their pet peeves. I wasn't calling you out - unless you think you are rank spanking?! (A borrowed term, by the way... can't take credit.)

But now that we're here, there's another stupid thing I didn't think of. Every blog we do invites responses, which in my blogs require replies from me to be courteous. I haven't even been able to keep up with responding to all the sweet people telling me good job because, it's not just today's blog, but it's the day before and the day before that, as they stumble across it in their email!

Now I get to go say "Thanks but No Reason For Congrats" which will take even longer. lol

Remember me, the person who messaged you about not getting your feelings hurt when your blog writing (maybe general writing?) privileges got suspended for blogging too much a few days ago? And I just suggested you message Kyle to get them back?

And here we both are BLOGGING TOO DARNED MUCH! BRILLIANT pair, eh?

I'm copping to doing a dumb thing. Hey, I junk blogged without thinking about it. It ain't murder, it's a blog. But don't want to get your knickers in a bunch and hurt your feelings Tony. And sorry I haven't thanked you for your comment on my Day 3... I'm still working on Day 1!!!

I love WA, and it has tought me so much, but the quality of posts on here has definitely deteriated in my opinion, to the point where I don't bother to go through them as much any more.

I thought it was just me, and the fact that as I learn more I am not as interested in what is, quite frankly, the dribble that is being posted by many (but not all!!) at WA lately.

I agree. I joined 6 months ago and there was so much inspiring and helpful content in the Activity Dashboard. These days it's more akin to weeding through Facebook posts on your timeline trying to find something interesting and/or helpful. It's all sounding very narcissistic just like most social media.

I don't want this platform to become another social media outlet. It's such a great business platform, such an awesome place to learn. But much of that great content is getting lost in the slush pile (to use a publishing term).

I rarely see posts from those in the know - those who have been there before us and succeeded in this business. Maybe those highly experienced members have stopped posting. Or perhaps their posts are washed away in the deluge.

My take! I have my own challenges and no need to be challenged. The challenge to learn the lessons, the challenge to come up with a very enticing website, the challenge to sift on the keywords for my next niche, etc. etc. Truth is...my biggest challenge too is to show to my family that WA is really an effective platform for my personal enrichment and learning development in the field of online marketing.

100% agree. I love the community here, and I have newer been in a community like this. That is was I´m little bit afraid that this can damage it.
Soon after I started, I find out that it would be great to have the possibility to declined following some users.
The reason is that many like things I don´t, and that's normal and fine. But many users here are must read for me because the are always with a very important blog about IM working or the life or ideas etc. I have tried to look at each blog, some for seconds to see if it´s helpful. But I´m worried that I am starting to don´t see the members I need to read because I am starting to delete some emails without opening it for some users, which have important thins sometimes, but I don´t have time to look at all they write.

Hi Alex, in my blog I only expressed my personal opinion and did not use strong words. You write that I am 'pissed off' with such activity; this is too strong expression and it is a pity you use it. See my blog, those are not sentences of an angry person.

Perhaps you got such an impression after seeing so many reactions on my blog. I am not responsible for that. In fact I see that you describe that activity as a junk. The reaction of people on my blog shows that many think the same way.

I like how you write, obviously you are talented and I am not surprised that you manage to blog daily at your site. This is for every respect. So, no sense to waste talent and time on 'junk' (sorry for using your word).
Reply
SupportWorx Premium
I'll just take a reference to you out JV. It's just the way I speak... a bit casual and easily taken wrong sense of humor. Obviously you were quite low key about it - not ACTUALLY pissed off! HAHA And yes I loved reading the comments. This is what blogs should do - give you a picture of a bunch of viewpoints... not just bring trivia. My opinion only - the few it isn't trivia for can group together elsewhere better.

I hope my gist wasn't missed. I believe I plainly said in so many words that the people LIKE YOU who contribute value don't need to be getting pissed off with sheer volume of... JUNK. It was a compliment to you. And I try to give credit in my blogs if I used someone's info from another blog for part of my concept. It's just courtesy.

I just don't need to spend time participating here and end up offending good people. I saw some benefits. I see drawbacks too and don't really need even a single thankless chore! And I don't care if you use my word, I'm not so territorial... it's kind of true, right? -Alexx

Before I got sick and almost died summer before last, I was a social butterfly here at WA. My rank went well below 100 (I forget the #). Wasn't trying for that goal, but it happened. And I kinda' gloated in it. (Honest feelings - loved the status and notoriety).

But when I came back recently, I was in the 1400's. Whoa! LOL Starting from the bottom again is rather humbling, but that's okay. It isn't my # 1 priority goal, but if I get down in the single digits.....I think my head can handle it.....;)))

I just want to have a successful website built from here that helps others (the Disabled who need wheelchairs/accessories - my niche), one that makes enough money to support my lifestyle and still have the time to reach out to my WA family here.

It's the "I can do anything/everything" syndrome from my Bipolar, but that's okay, I enjoy it and enjoy life.

Spread the JOY!

Well, it's easy for us to spot... most of the time. But the newer people, or less business-minded people, may think the socializing passes for work. It's like in the realtor world - my first "real job" after my 10 year 4 year degree - we used to say "hanging around the water cooler isn't working. But most realtors spend 80 percent of their time doing BS, and 20% working, if that. And it doesn't help anyone, especially them and the new people they also contaminate. But there was power in numbers and it was very difficult for the brokers to get a handle on it without alienating the bulk of the employees who might perhaps dribble one listing a year in HAHA They all hated me but all I went there for was to work. I wasn't in a popularity contest. -Alexx
