STOP the BLOG emails, just scan the headlines. Here's how:
That giant sucking sound you can still hear is the amount of time it takes to hit delete a hundred times LOL. So Kennick just triggered an idea so I checked it out...
To conserve the most time but still stay on top of the BLOGS my "FRIENDS" are writing, I turned off the emails.
Now the first thing I see as I scroll through is the blogs all you SMART PEOPLE like the most, so if I don't have time for the others then I just don't...
Whew... this is too cool! Just try it for a day or so.
To STOP EMAILS you do this:
- Click on your PROFILE ICON (top right of screen with your big head on it)
- Then ACCOUNT SETTINGS
- Scroll down to EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS
- Click NO.
---You just saved HOURS AND HOURS of precious work time in a few seconds---
Next, to scan headlines of people you follow, do this:
Click on...
- ACTIVITY DASHBOARD (Black button top left of the screen, with the little house icon) then...
- ACTIVITY (Blue button just to the right... on the same bar where you pick NOTIFICATION on the left) then...
- FRIENDS (Just below the activity bar. Notice you can choose a bunch of other options here - for instance, you can see the whole community's blog headlines if you want! And miss NOTHING! And you can change the format of the Activity and see the first couple of lines of text to perhaps buy a clue before you waste time opening.)
I've done it for now. I'll see how it goes. If someone can think of a reason I should go back to my click-delete-click-delete days, I'm all ears!
Hope this helps somebody else ;). I'm feelin pretty free and efficient right now!

UPDATE: Hey, NWTDennis just showed me a blog by HelenDoyle where she showed individual email choices. If you guys want to keep webinar notifications, for instance, you just go back and click YES to receive emails again, and uncheck everything but Webinars. I just did that one for now. We'll see if I miss any other stuff, but I doubt it! Sorry I didn't know that before I wrote the blog! -A

Just started today, but I really doubt it. I still want to read a lot, but just don't want to waste a part of my time I could be reading doing deletions. Do you actually respond to all the blogs? I guess I didn't think anyone was actually doing that, but just selectively reading and then responding... -Alexx
Honestly, there are days I spend my day on my websites and I fall behind. There have been days I have had to delete a days worth to catch up. I have kept up with all my emails the last 4 days. I also havent written content. My inlaws have been sick so we've stayed over at their house, so it's been easy to answer all my emails. I'm home now so back to work.

When you say you answer all your emails, do you mean you read all the blog emails and then comment on each one of them? I just can't even imagine. -A
O.M.G. ED YOU MUST BE A SPEED READER! My computer can't even open the things fast enough for me to have time to scan through them, let alone read! I gotta hand it to you, man! -Alexx
I've essentially done this for about week thanks to a tutorial I stumbled upon from Helen Doyle. It just made sense. Emails, Are You Drowning in Them!
I must be missing something Dennis. I have only 1 choice... email off or on. How can you do her method with only 1 setting? -Alexx
I FOUND IT...duh... you have to have the screen set to yes, THEN scroll on down to see the choices. I set it back to a couple I want, like webinars. Thx for the heads up, Dick. I'm gonna update the blog! -Alexx
Sounds like it could be a good idea. I'd hate to miss some tutorials and other blogs I enjoy reading, but I guess they would be there on the dashboard. Hmm, may try it. Thanks :)
All the tutorials and learning blogs pop right up to the top of the scroll. You'll see. -Alexx
Just looked again... you click FRIENDS on the right (or everyone) then can click POPULAR on the left for the important stuff. -A
sounds great "freedom and more time" but I'm not sure if this effects your ranking with WA so I'll check to see what other comments you get. Cheers Daragh
Daragh, you don't get points for reading a blog. Just commenting on it or writing one. You can still do that without clicking through on an email. -Alexx
So if I do this then I just have to go to the dashboard to see what new blogs are out there and if I am interested in reviewing them?
Thanks for that and I also will see how this goes. I had removed some of the emails but wasn't sure what I needed and what I didn't.
Thanks
Sheila
YES! You can do it right now before you stop the emails and see what you think. I really don't want to have to unfollow people... I just don't want EVERY SINGLE BLOG ya know? It's kinda ridiculous. -Alexx

Hi Alexx , You have started a interesting discussion . Currently I have all the port holes open . I continue to learn so much from the emails that arrive in my inbox . The main notifications are the interactions with people who are in my network . I see it as a give and take thing . However I may need to revisit the equation when the number in my network gets higher . I presume it gets to a tipping point where by the emails start to drown you . The management of emails could be part of an on going business strategy . Keep us up to date on how you get on .
Alexander
You too, Alexander... keep me posted, and yes when it started with 10 a day it was no problem and rather fascinating, but now that there is real work to be done, more so than just learning and theorizing, it has become too much of a time drain for me. ;) -Alexx
