My Experience Using Sora AI: Why Storytelling Still Matters More Than the Tool
Hey, WA Family! Hope everything is fine!
Today I want to bring my experience using Sora to create a cinematic reel for my african textiles brand.
Sora is an extremely powerful tool
It allows you to create visual content that can genuinely support a brand, without the usual limits of budget, locations, or production time. From that point of view alone, it’s hard to ignore.
But very quickly, I understood that it is like driving a Ferrari without knowing the clear direction to take!
The tool is not the skill
Sora can generate footage, but it doesn’t generate MEANING.
Without storytelling, AI visuals are just images you scroll past and forget.
The real skill — and the one that matters most — is still the ability to shape a story, no matter where the footage comes from.
Why storytelling matters for brands
Today, customers are constantly exposed to sales messages.
They skip ads, discounts, and calls to action almost automatically.
A short story works differently.
Even a small, simple story told through video can slow people down, create context, and stay in their memory longer than a direct sales message ever will. Instead of saying “buy this”, storytelling shows the world we are shaping as a brand.
That’s how brands build trust and authority over time.
Using Sora with a storytelling mindset
In my project, I used Sora to generate footage for a short brand-related reel.
The concept was clear: I did not want to show a new fabric, I wanted to show HOW that fabric is used in everyday life.
The world of african fabrics is rich in heritage and traditions so my intent was showing how african wax prints work by supporting women in their lives: a simple act like carrying a baby can become easier if you wrap the baby in the fabric to your back!
Sora - thanks to a correct cinematic prompt and my attitude as a director, not just a video editor - provided the raw material.
Storytelling happened through:
- selection and pacing
- cutting anything that felt artificial or unnecessary
- letting sound and rhythm support the emotion
AI didn’t replace the creative process.
It simply gave me more material to work with.
Final thought
Sora is a tool worth learning.
But for brands, the real difference is still made by storytelling.
Because tools change.
The way people connect to stories doesn’t.
You can watch the final edit here! Your feedback will be highly appreciated!
P.s. I will share with you tomorrow the insight about this reel on Instagram, Facebook and Youtube!
P.P.S. Here there are the INSIGHTS after 24 h post's publication!

Thanks for sharing about Sora...fascinating to see your experience with it. I think you nailed something about all AI, all are missing certain abilities only humans can bring eg insight or in this case like you said, meaning.
This is such a strong and insightful post. You’ve articulated the distinction perfectly: powerful tools don’t create meaning—people do. I love the “Ferrari without direction” analogy; it captures the reality of AI tools so well.
Your emphasis on storytelling, especially in the context of heritage-rich African textiles, really stands out. Showing how the fabric supports everyday life instead of simply presenting a product is a beautiful example of brand-led storytelling done right. It’s clear you approached this as a director with intention, not just an editor using a tool.
A thoughtful, grounded reminder that while tools will keep evolving, human connection through story remains constant. Looking forward to seeing how the reel performs across platforms.
Oh wow Monica, your comment truly touched the core intention of this small story!
I Will post the insights tomorrow so the reel could run at least 24 hours!
Thank you so much! I’m really glad my comment resonated. I’m looking forward to seeing the insights tomorrow and watching the reel come to life!
Thank you dear, I love editing, It Is another tool in my hands to tell some beautiful stories 😘

Thank you for sharing, Romy
Yes, I love stories . And it's true what the slogan claims - facts tell, stories sell.
Love this mantra but I Will reprhase It: facts tell, stories connect :) even if we lose the assonance 😁
