I Used Sora for This Reel… and the 123% Retention Honestly Surprised Me
Yesterday I promised that I would come back with real data after testing a Reel built with AI-generated footage using Sora.
I wasn’t testing Sora itself.
We already know it’s powerful.
What I really wanted to test was something else:
"Does storytelling still matter when the footage is AI-generated?"
Spoiler: yes. Very much. (Thank God!)
YouTube (Suomii Fabrics — small, recently restarted channel)
- 361 views in the first 24 hours
- Average view duration: 123%
Ok these are not viral numbers but they still give us a clear direction for our next content!
Let’s stop for a second on that 123%, because this is the key number.
A retention over 100% means people didn’t just watch the Reel.
They watched it again.
They replayed it.
On a small channel.
With no special push.
That’s not just “nice footage.”
That’s storytelling doing its job.
Another small but important signal: this is the first video on this channel to ever reach 5 likes. No other video had done that before.
This single Reel:
- moved reach from 11% to 17% in one day (my goal is reaching 5000 reach)
- increased reach from 500 to 877
- generated 353 views
- received 11 likes
Since the page restart, no other post has reached this level of interaction.
The average post reach is around 50-100, so this Reel clearly performed far above the norm.
Facebook is now showing it to more people — a clear sign that engagement and retention were strong.
- 600 views in about a day and a half
These are just first-day numbers.
Lately, both Facebook and Instagram seem to keep pushing Reels that perform well, even after the first day. So I guess we will see these numbers growing!
What These Numbers Are Really Telling Us
This experiment confirmed that what really drives:
- replays
- retention
- emotional reaction
- likes
is storytelling.
Product-focused posts on these same profiles don’t generate this kind of response.
Narrative content does.
And that’s what builds authority around a brand, not just visibility.
Conclusion
All these channels have been restarted just 20 days ago, so these numbers are congruent with a testing phase from all algorhytms by the different platforms.
What we can read here among the data is a clear direction to take to produce more similar content!
AI can give you beautiful images or footage.
But it won’t tell the story for you.
Storytelling is the real skill, and that’s exactly why I’m so happy to announce Creative Writing for Entrepreneurs – Season 2 🎉
This new season will focus on storytelling strategies for our brands:
how to build narratives, create emotional connection, and use words and visuals in a way that makes people stay, rewatch, and engage.
Tools evolve.
Algorithms change.
But a good story still does the heavy lifting :)))

That was a great display of fabric in everyday life. I enjoyed watching it twice. Now I have it on repeat in the background. Want to take this one step further? I have been researching taking reels, shorts, and pins to the next level. This is the space I have been living in lately.
Hook -> Gesture, Care & Traditions - > Story -> A day in the life of the fabric -> CTA? It was a great video. What do you want me to do next? A great video always leads to doing something.
You mentioned,
"Rather than selling a product, this reel aims to translate cultural significance into cinematic language, using technology, editing, and sound to honor what already exists."
I may suggest a CTA like
“Preserve the traditions that carry us.”
Textile traditions as heritage worth protecting:
UNESCO – Safeguarding African Cultural Practices
https://ich.unesco.org/en/RL/craftsmanship-of-traditional-woven-textile-kente-02130
Again, this is a great video, well worth watching. Now let's share, like, and subscribe to a movement!
Yes, yes and yes!!! I agree with you! I did not use this chance at its best to create a strong CTA, but it was semi-intentional. I wanted to test the format and if people could "absorb" the AI footage as if it was real.
The response has been clear: AI footage very well edited (ehm sorry but I am proud of myself here, lol!) is not a problem at all if there is a story or a problem to solve.
But yes, you are 100% right! I cannot miss some good opportunity like this without "kindly" pushing the viewer to the next action!
I will surely keep it in mind for the next reel!
I have started 4 Instagram Accounts with AI generated influencers. Look for @SettingPoints, Elle_Norris999, @Skaia_Norris, #4 only has the first post. @Ryn_Norris. Norris is the street I live on. But as I ramp them up in 2026, I expect the reels will do well. Just remember
Hook -> Bait -> CTA
It doesn't need to sell anything and sometimes like this, it's simply, go educate yourself.
MrDon
Yeah Don, I have been working on Instagram since longtime (it was my main source of customers and income), my account has 10.700 followers and I have witnessed how Instagram has changed in the last years.
Hook > Bait > CTA is a formula that works for VIRAL content (it is not sure you go viral with this formula, it is just a way to structure the script to hook and keep the viewer's attention until the end AND help the IG algorhytm to understand clearly the content)
BUT...what is the result? That all the reel are the SAME!!!
So, instead of replicating a similar structure for everybody (that for some type of posts could work but for others not) I decided to bet on storytelling.
And it seems data are proven I am not so wrong. :)
I am ready to make a difference. I have a list of 28 hooks that I have curated to grab your attention, I have reverse engineered OnePeakCreative to emulate the format. Content is being generated and evaluated.
ok let's see how these contents will perform Don! I am sure the hook will work if they address some target's problem! Keep us update about it!
One step at time Myra! What is extremely important is gathering data to decide the next moves!

Good morning Romy,
I hope you're doing well.
This is very impressive for your video and good for promoting your brand.
I'm not a fan of AI video, but as I heard someone say yesterday, we are the last people to see real videos! If someone had shown me that video, I wouldn't have known that it was AI, I do find it incredible.
Thank you for publishing your results, it's very interesting what can be achieved.
Out of interest, Romy, how long did it take you to create that video? I really wouldn't have a clue.
Have a great day.
Roy
Roy,
The world's playing fields have been leveled. AI is a tool that people have begun to use effectively as you can see.
I have leaned heavily into it and am rounding the corner of being quite adept.
2026 is going to be a break out year for AI, Agents, and Influencers,
Catch the Vibe!
Don
Good morning Don,
I hope that you are doing well.
I do find it absolutely amazing what AI can do, it's kind of beyond belief!
I'm using ChatGPT all the time for brainstorming and finding out things, etc, but I think the biggest thing I struggle with is, for example, a review of Wealthy Affiliate that is in AI. Now I can see that Romy, is using her video, to promote her brand, that makes sense. But if I wanted to hear about Wealthy Affiliate, I really want to hear the individual's experience, not what AI thinks, even though it may be right, it just lacks that personal touch.
So I do think there is a balance, but, I do hear exactly where you're coming from and the speed AI is growing at, is absolutely amazing.
A very happy New Year to you.
Roy
That my friend is the beauty of AI. I can ask AI for a list of 10 things that WA stands out for, put it in an outline and write that post by heart. If you didn't use AI, could you list out 10 things that makes WA Stand out?

I made it to 6 off the top of my head. Chatty would give me the other four and I would say, Why didn't I think of that?!
This is the true use, tell me what I am missing. I Don't Know What I Don't Know - But Chatty Knows!
So it makes my story more complete.
Then, for extra measure, ask Chatty to give you a short 30-second infomercial about what you just wrote. Turn that into a YouTube Short, IG Reel, and two Pinterest clips. You now have 4 extra pieces pointing back to your post. And a few "Tweets" thrown in for good measure.

Ciao Roy! I am fine and I hope you too as well!
The result is even MORE IMPRESSIVE because on my other channel, the same video has reached 430% of retention!!!! Truly incredible!
Well, consider this: even the "real" videos are not real at all! There were filmmaker deciding the shots, the camera mouvement, the light and so on...in this perspective, any cinematic video has always been built by the STORY + CREATIVITY.
And this is exactly what is happening right now with AI.
The people who watched my reel didn't even ask themselves. is it real or AI? Why?
Because the story was strong enough to push the footage in a real credible way!
That's why as a video editor I always structure the story first.
Once I have the story very clear in my mind THEN I can create a footage which matches it!
I will write a post with my detailed workflow because it is a little bit long to write here in the comments!
Anyway, it took 1 day of work to create script, footage and editing! :)
If I may add something Don, I checked your IG profile with the AI influencer.
They seem too much AI, and I am talking as a designer and video editor who follows a lot of creatives who uses AI for their IG profiles.
You here have two directions:
1. refine your prompt to have a more natural look for your ai models
2. exagerate the look by putting some fairy/ super creative elements in clothes, makeup, environment
What I want to say is that if you stay in the MIDDLE, simply NOT refining your prompt, people won't accept that output and it will label it as fake.
But if you create a truly PERSONAL AESTHETIC with AI, then yes your profiles will grow so much!
Roy, it is very simple to create a video MIXING your experience + AI b-roll to add.
FIND A PROBLEM that WA solves > for example the update training for each social platform
TALK IN THE CAMERA saying that as an entrepreneur is difficult to find updated information on every platform (ask claude to write the script for this concept)
Then to reinforce the concept CREATE SOME AI CLIPS to add in your video (take the youtuber style as an example)
The rest is done by the EDITING work (fast cuts, animations, music and sounds) :)
You are correct, and thank you for looking. I should be the one following you.
@Skaia_Norris was just updated. Check the last post. The look starts with last year's version and updates to this year. Night and day difference.
2026 Upgrade - https://www.instagram.com/p/DSqRx68kRPI/
Ryn_Norris is also just about fully baked.
Elle_Norris999 is still in the oven.
The tools and training are evolving at the speed of AI. So are the looks.
And storytelling? Storytelling will never get old.
Yes I can see clearly the difference and the improvement!
The problems that I see here in the video you sent me are:
- the cover reel is still too much AI (you could replace it with the last clip where she is more natural)
- the color grading: too much saturated and fake (I don't know which program you are using for editing, but go on color grading, adjust the levels of contrast and saturation)
- voice over speed: at a certain point, the voice over become even more faster causing a dissonance in the viewer (no human will increase the speed that way while talking)
The good news is that
- you have a good concept (you are showing before and after in getting better with ai generation)
- the edit could improve soooooooooooo much this concept if you correct the problems above
:)))
That was Canva. I will own that one, I prefer to publish from CapCut.
ok! CapCut is fine, if you could learn editing in DaVince Resolve (free) is even better!
DaVinci has a free editing course that could help you reach your goals with video faster!
I am currently editing with Premiere Pro (paid) because I want to learn the industry standard first, but as soon as you will switch to a pro editing tool and study editing, your videos will jump to another level for sure!!!
That all sounds good, Don, has it turned you into a six-figure affiliate marketer?
It is absolutely amazing what AI can do, I still have a lot to learn though!
Have a great day.
Roy
I'm doing well, thank you, Romy.
They are amazing stats, this is where this type of video can probably work, as it's just advertising your brand. If it was like a review of Wealthy Affiliate, I believe it may be different.
Yes, I'm sure having the right story, makes a big difference.
I must admit I've never used anything like this, Romy, it is fascinating what can be achieved with AI, etc.
That seems a terrific amount of time to make that short video, I'm not sure how long it was 10 seconds? Is that because the software is new, Romy, I appreciate that when you write a story, etc, everything takes time. Also, if the software is new to you, that also takes time to get used to.
I normally think that it takes me around one hour to create a YouTube video and upload it and then embed it on my website, that's provided I know what I'm going to create!
Very interesting stuff, Romy, I do appreciate you sharing.
A very happy New Year to you.
Roy
Ciao Roy!!! Happy New Year!
Two days seems a terrific amount of time but consider this:
- you are creating a NEW FORMAT for your youtube / socials
- the first time takes always a little bit longer (then you will speed the process)
- the video was 15 seconds long
- It was the first time for me using Sora
Since there are many things to explain, I will prepare a video Roy, so the workflow will be surely clearer! :)
Good morning Romy,
Thank you, it's hard to believe that we are already in 2026!
I do understand what it's like when we are using new software, everything is new, we are to find out every new step, which can be extremely time consuming. It's well be interesting to see how your journey goes using the software, Romy. It's great that you're documenting the journey.
Have a fantastic day and enjoy the new software.
Roy
