Yes, it is a four letter word as well.

It can be an acronym for False Enemy Appearing Real OR False Evidence Appearing Real

The New Oxford American Dictionary defines in many ways as below.

Defines FEAR as “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat”

OR

It is a feeling of anxiety concerning the outcome of something or the safety and well-being of someone

OR

“It is the probability of something unwelcome happening”

The first three - emotion, belief, and feeling all belong to the same category. It is the core in-built system within our minds. The only odd one out is the probability. This is like the lottery. It may occur or it may not occur. This depends on a variety of factors, depending on the type of fear in context.

Let us look at some examples:

  • I was scared to talk to girls, until i finished my bachelors, seriously no jokes.
  • I used to be afraid to speak in English in public.
  • I used to be scared about my exams in school, college and university
  • I was afraid to board the flight for the first time and while take-off and landing
  • I know to swim, but an unknown fear engulfs me when I am tired and in the deep end in a pool.
  • I have been afraid of interviews in the past.

If you look at the key words, it does not say anything, but blindly scared, afraid.

Only way to achieve Freedom from these FEARs, unfortunately, is only ACTION.

"ACTION is the antidote to FEAR."

Let me take the last example: “Afraid of interviews”.

The possible reasons for this could be - the numbered items below and actions are bulleted items.

  1. Uncomfortable talking in groups → (my control, largely)
    • practice to speak in groups,
    • take help from friends & families,
    • mock interview
  2. Not confident with the subject I am interviewed for (my control, largely)
    • Practice working on the subject regularly
    • Take somebody’s help for mock interview on the subject
  3. Not sure if I will be successful → (not in my control, largely)
    • I can only prepare and present myself well in the interview
    • The results could depend on the other candidates as well, but I can put my best forward.
  4. Not fluent in English/chosen language of interview (my control, largely)
    • I can have a coach/mentor who could help me to groom

Looking at the above scenario, I can only work on things that I can/could control.

All of the above that I have shared are all real problems that I have faced. I am sure you may have faced/facing or somebody known to you is facing.

As long as we dont analyze the situation and take anti-dotes, we are bound to fail and remain in fear for sure.

Now scale the fear to all the spheres of life - Personal, finance, relationships, jobs, business, community, nation. The problem is getting bigger and bigger.

Hope I have been able to impress upon you the importance of understanding our own fear factors and take action to progress towards our purpose goals.

Be bold, take a problem/goal, understand why and where you are stuck or fearing, write down action steps, take massive action, one at a time. You will reach your goal.

To your Success,
