The C-Team

Yes, you read it right.

Let us meet each member of your C team - one at a time.

1. Character

Thiruvalluvar, the Tamil Saint who lived in 2CE, in present day state of Tamil Nadu, Southern India, wrote about Character as: “Consider a man's good qualities, and consider his faults; and judge his character by that which is more.”

The modern day wikipedia says - “the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.”

All living beings have character, humans are not an exception. The “quality” is closely related and determined by the ACTION of an individual in diverse life situations.

For example. The King fought the battle bravely. The brave-ness is attributed to the type of action here. It is about the goodness or not so goodness of an ACT. The quality of goodness or not-so goodness can be related to the moral aspects of an individual.

Some examples of quality in modern world as follows:

  1. Abraham Lincoln was an honest President of the United States.
  2. Gandhi and Nelson Mandela were known for their determination to free their respective countries from colonial rule.
  3. Steve Jobs was known for his passion to make a difference to people through technology
  4. Sir Richard Branson is known for Risking attitude in business world
  5. Mohammed Ali was known for his Greatness in Boxing.

2. Commitment

This is the 2nd member in the C-Team.

Commitment follows purpose. Any individual who has a life’s purpose, a clarified goal and sets out to achieve it, commits himself/herself to complete the task. The unwavering attitude and involvement towards completing the set goal stands out to be “Commitment”. The attitude remains strong regardless of life situations.

3. Concentration

The 3rd member of the C-Team is Concentration.

Concentration is defined to be “exclusive attention to one object or a close mental application to a task. The great Marie Curie was known for her concentration power. Marie single handedly processed a ton of waste metal ore from uranium - pitchblende to create a very tiny sample of pure Radium. She boiled huge cauldrons of the pounded rock in a chemical solution and then set the results out in small experimental apparatus dishes to evaporate, finally to see the beautiful sight of the hundreds of dishes glowing with radiation in her laboratory.

This work also won her the second Nobel prize for inventing Radium.

4. Consistency

The last member of the C-Team is Consistency.

It is the condition of cohering or holding together and retaining form; solidity or firmness; It is the steadfast adherence to the same principles, course, form, etc over periods of time.

Tiger woods is known for his consistent practice - hitting over 1000 golf balls a day in his journey to become a master golfer that he is today.

When I look back at my own life, knowingly or unknowingly, whenever there was alignment in these 4 principles, I have succeeded without exceptions, any task I have taken up - may be delayed in a few cases.

For example - In 1997 September, my wife and I, a few weeks after our marriage, sat to plan our life. We both wrote down in a diary about plans of buying a home, buying a car and what best things we would buy for our child. The plans were with dates. The details went to an extent of how much money would go in for a house deposit and who will take care of what expenses, just a regular plan most of us do today.

I really couldn’t believe the things as they started happening within dates that we had planned. By 1998 May we had our daughter, and bought a car in June same year. We bought our first house in December 1999.It was a question of planning our goals and working.

Thats my daughter Simi, the car and the house. That was in 2000, after we moved to the new house.

Then, I/we didn’t know about these C-Team factors, although they are existing. We worked in alignment of these factors unknowingly. Now working on these factors knowingly and making them as part of our C-Team makes things much easier.

Regardless, all steps come down to one thing. Take Action.

Have a life’s purpose.

Be brave to make a Commitment,

Concentrate on each small step,

Be consistent in your Actions,

the world is yours to be won,

Leap to your greatness,

Embrace the Struggle,

To your success.
