I have never worked with videos. I need some serious guidance here...

Can I host videos that stream directly from my website?
Is this even a good idea or would I run

It may help to have a look at Marion's latest post -

Thanks Brad, I'll do that now.

rarely if ever host video on your site, find somewhere like youtube or vimeo and host it there and embed on your site.

Unless you are paying for super premium type hosting with wistia or liquid web, then would be the only time that I would host videos locally

I figured. Thanks for the help!

I am not an expert in video production but this is my opinion.

It would depends on how long (how big the file size) of the video. I think one short video should not harm the bandwidth.
But if the file size if huge, I would think host it outside like Youtube is a better option.

Again, just my 2 cent.

:)

The video would be 2 minutes or so. Also, many of my posts would have a video of about the same length. I post 3 - 4 times a week, so lots of video eventually.

That sounds the videos will take up your bandwidth. It could also slows down your page load. Youtube or other video hosting is next viable option.

Does anyone know how site trust (under site health) is calculated? Is it an actual metric or a timer sort of thing?

Featured Comment

Hi Steven,

Site trust is calculated using metrics such as age of site, pace of publishing, volume of content published, and engagement.

To gain Google's trust you want to publish content regularly, engage with users who leave comments on your content, and avoid lulls in publishing. It can take months to gain the trust of Google.

Thanks Carson!

With SiteProtect built in at the server level, should I keep Akismet? Seems like an unneeded plugin.

If you host under WA, I don't think so. You can replace it with a much more important plugin you prefer. XD

Yeah... Keeping it to 5 is tough. I removed Akismet so we'll see once I start getting more traffic from the wild.

it's unfortunately still in the course material. I have requested an update on the matter. It is not required anymore and I have never installed it anywhere and it is fine - never got any sort of spam on my sites.

Steven

Thanks Steven!

Thanks Gary. I figured but wanted to be sure.

You don't need Akismet. You can dump it.
