Finished Phase 3, Well, Sort Of (My ABC Journey)

I went through the remaining lessons 8,9,10 for Phase 3 on the Affiliate Boot Camp, but I wasn't able to implement the sidebar widget shilling WA.

The training at this point does seem to be a bit outdated compared to what the user sees these days, but my struggles with Lesson 9 really had nothing to do with the training not visually matching the reality.

To make a long story short, I not only had trouble getting that WA banner into sidebar to work using Fixed Widget (without breaking what's already there and working), but I guess deep down, I feel like I'd lose credibility if every post on my site had a banner touting WA.

Maybe it's in my personality not to shill so openly like that.

Maybe I'm making a mistake by not doing it.

What do you think about that? Is the WA shilling sidebar widget necessary? Is it worth the trouble to get it working and push through the struggles here?

Well, whatever the case is, aside from that gap in the task list for this Phase, I guess now is the time to go into 20 day break before getting into Phase 4.

The break might be longer since I'll be out of town, but I'll be ready to resume the Affiliate Bootcamp when the preceding tasks outside of the ABC training are done.

So onwards and upwards in my ABC journey...

Very well done, Johnny!

Jeff

Do what you feel comfortable with.
Here is some training you may like so you could create a multicolumn block on a page and use one as a banner.

Thanks for the link. I checked it out, and if I'm reading this correctly, he's using full width and then using Gutenberg columns block to kind of "fake" the sidebar.

Could work on a post by post basis though I'm not certain how that would do if you wanted something fixed and permanent on the sidebar, which I'm guessing Kyle was getting at on Phase 3 Lesson 9.

Nevertheless, I'll definitely keep this in mind if I'm going to do something specific for a single post.

Yes, what Kyle is suggesting is a sidebar that is used on all post sidebars.

If you want a sidebar look on some pages you can use columns. We definitely use columns and like them.

Not necessary, on mobile devices it would be bottom, I'd leave it out.
